[B] [D#]
[F#] Hello.
[G#m] Hi everybody, my name is [E] Rufus Wainwright, and this is Guy Chambers, and we're [D] all working tonight.
And the reason you're all here is because I'm introducing a new song called World War III, which is a happy piece.
[G#] So actually I'm going to take the mic out because it's more kind of [E] pop.
[A#]
Got to get ready for my hit song [D#] stuff.
Yeah, and it's called World War III.
Here we go.
[A#m] [C#] World War III
Between [F#] [C#] you and me
Oh,
[A#m] [F#] [A#] she's [F#] the [C#] last thing
And [D#m] everybody [A#m] wants a piece of [F#] the action
[C#] [F#]
Everybody [A#m] wants a piece of the [G#] action
[C#] Don't burst into the [F#]
chorus
[D#m] There's so much more [G#] to come
The [C#]
back of [F#] the cell
[D#m] Just turn your back [G#] and run
Away [F#m] from the guns
Away from [C#] the guns
I have to be honest, I was extremely [A#m] apprehensive about writing with anyone.
I mean, I'd written [A#] before with [F#] people, and usually [C#] it's a bit of a dentistry experience.
But with Guy, the sensibility was one of, you know, let's do [A#m] this for the song.
[F#]
[C#] Despite world war I
It was a really great experience, and I'd love [G#] to try something [F#] else with him.
He's got a [A#m] phenomenal voice.
Got a piece [F#] of the action
I still [C#] don't know if the first line in the chorus is a terrible mistake.
[G#] But apart from that, I really, really enjoyed it.
[C#] Don't burst into the [F#] chorus
[D#m] There's no more blood [G#] to run
[C#] But what do industry [F#] insiders think of the song?
To [D#m] find out, we took it to two of Britain's top radio pluggers.
Is this [G#] the commercial ballad Rufus was hoping for?
Away from [F#m] the guns
[C#] This is a classic song.
It soars at the right moments.
It's lovely when it just drops back again and just settles again.
[A#m] You just kind of have to stop and kind of go, I've got to listen to that.
[F#] But what do the pluggers think of the chorus?
I [C#] really like the line, don't burst into the chorus.
I don't think it's an industry line.
I think most people out there will understand.
And I do think it works in there.
[A#m] God, if that's the first time that Rufus and Guy have written together,
you kind of [F#] think, do a bit more, guys.
[C#] Will the song make the all-important radio playlist?
[D#] Well, radio 2, [C#] it's out of the ship.
Record of the week.
It's radio 2.
I think in commercial radio, absolute [F#] would want a bit of that big time.
That's a [C#] big, you know, [G#] you can imagine people in their cars singing it.
[C#] See, I hear this in a [F#] big old British rom-com with Curtis.
[D#m] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's [G#] totally there.
Right at the end where he gets the girl, she's run off.
He realizes she loves him, she's [F#] leaving the airport, he's got to get there,
the train's [C#] starting, it's one of those, isn't it?
It's ripe for a sing.
[F#] It's gnawing here.
It's a big, or even like a Disney film [D#m] as well.
Hold it for the Olympics when someone gets a gold medal.
Going through the line, [G#] like that.
I can just see, it's got that, [F#m] it's emotive.
And, [F#] you know, I know that [C#] this is part of the ballad.
I know exactly what you're going to say.
But it's anthemic.
It's completely anthemic.
[F#] Run away, run away.
[D#m]
The time you live is given, [G#] run away, run away.
[C#] [N]
