[N]
Speak, Lord, I [A] am listening.
For so long I've wanted [G] to say my own things, journals of agendas, [Bm] prose of my own [A] possibilities.
For so long I've wanted my words to promote the things that I love the most.
[G] And my treasure chests have [Bm] become storage closets of trophies of me, collecting [A]
my accomplishments,
brushing the dust on top of them, placing them on [G] my front room shelves for everyone to see.
[Bm] And when I was on the stage, [A] I did the same thing, saying the statements I knew would be impressive,
[D] speaking in rhythms that were faster than flash, though no one could [Bm] understand them,
pushing my [A] plans, my ideas, my calendars of what I thought you wanted.
[G] Or at least I hoped that even if you didn't, [Bm] I could get away with it.
[A] And for too long I lived like this.
Speak, [G] Lord, I am listening.
[Bm] Because now I see that when [A] you weren't my words meant nothing.
Now I [G] see that if your spirit doesn't fill our [Bm] words, we're giving vessels to a thirsty [A] world that look beautiful but are empty.
Now I see that when I [G] was without you, it wasn't pretty.
I remember the sin you [Bm] saved me from, [A] the pits of hell you pulled me from.
And I have not come this far [G]
just to let pride take over [Bm] me.
I rebuke my [A] need to be an exhibition.
May my only ambition be [G] to be like you and thus [Bm] experience life the way you created me [A] to,
in an image less like me, in a portrait more like [G] you.
May this horizontal stage never [Bm] be a vertical [A] barricade.
May nothing in this world stem [C#m] from the joy of knowing [G] you.
I turn down the chaos of [Bm] my life to stop and to listen,
[A]
to return to my first love, to hear the [D] truth in your [G] language.
Only you can breathe new life into [Bm] these dead [A] pages.
You speak all time.
How can my days tell your story? [G] You speak.
I'll repeat.
May [Bm] my words expose your [A] glory.
Speak, Lord!
I am listening.
I turn [G] down my own volume.
I turn up [Bm] your praise.
May I be the [A] microphone amplifying your words of grace.
May the words of my mouth [G] and the meditation of my heart be [Bm] pleasing to you,
O Lord, [A] my rock and my redeemer.
I take my word and my [G] life off the mantle.
Come, [Bm] the center stage.
Come fill the empty vessel.
