[Am] I love you!
I love you, God!
Crying in the night!
[E]
[D] [E] [C]
[E] [G] What was the motivation behind the band?
To be the hardest, the most extreme?
Originally, yeah, to be [Ab] the most extreme.
And that's what we've done.
I think we're an [Eb] extreme form of metal.
The only time I recently started [G] listening to music
is when [Gb] I joined the band with these guys.
And I didn't even know metal existed.
[G] That's for sure.
It's true.
It's an [Gb] honest statement.
I didn't know that shit existed until he said,
Hey, what do you say we join the band?
These are the songs we're learning.
I said, well, [E] who's this?
A guy called Iron Maiden.
[G]
Who's that?
I had heard from a local band called Sinister,
I think was their name.
I mean, this is back in, you know, 81, 82.
[E] And they [Eb] said, yeah, some guy lives there
and he has a bunch of guitars.
His dad bought him like six, seven guitars.
And one day I drove by and sure enough,
there's this guy watering the long, kind of long hair.
I said, Hey man, you play guitar?
I said, I play drums, man.
Let's get together.
That was it.
This is a pure Darwin, Carpal Python,
which only came into the States like maybe four or five years ago.
And that's the same as the one you guys wanted to get up here,
Evil, Evil.
See, she's moving around right now.
That snake is not fun to handle.
This snake here is the first one I got
when I got back into snakes in 2003.
Purple albino reticulated python.
And he's waiting for a girl to grow [Ebm] up so he can have some fun.
He's been [Eb] girlfriend free for his entire life.
[B]
[Eb] It's a beautiful [A]
day.
[Eb] [Gb]
[Bb] Arena shows are [Bb] huge.
It's a spectacle, but it doesn't have the intimacy [Abm] of a club or something
where people are like from me to [Gb] you.
That's some intense stuff.
I lean [D] towards those type of shows.
It's [B] just all sweaty and you can look them in the [Db] face
and they're all [G] sweaty and it's just better [Abm] atmosphere.
Outdoors, it's a little [D] parkish or something when we play,
especially during [Db] the day and it's not, you know, [B] the sun's still up.
It [E] seems a little weird playing [D] Slayer music when the sun's up.
So [G] I like the small venues better.
I like being home.
[Ab] I have my animals that I take care of.
I got a beautiful granddaughter now.
Wow.
I'm able to experience what I didn't experience with my kids
because I'm at home so [G] much.
[Bb] So I'm watching [Ab] her crawl.
She's not even crawling.
She wants to stand up and walk.
So it's like she's bypassing the crawling stage.
So [B] I'm able to experience a lot of the development [Ab] stages
that I [G] didn't get to experience with my [Gb] kids because I was always gone.
[F] [N]
When I actually talked to Dave Mustaine,
I had just gotten the last issue of Revolver, the Slayer issue,
and they had all kinds of old pictures of Slayer and Megadeth,
me and Dave, and all kinds of just memories,
and I really thought about it and I went, you know,
I don't even know what I'm mad at this guy about.
So the funny thing, the first time I saw him,
he was coming out of the lounge at the airport and I was going in
and I walked up to him and I said, hey man, shook his hand,
I said, I don't think I've spoke to you for 15 years.
[E] [Eb]
Slay me, Slaughter me, asshole!
[Db]
[Eb] [Gb] [Cm]
[Db] [G] [Gb] [Bb]
[Ab] [N]
And I saw him on the way in, I'm like, hey dude, what's up?
You know, talked for a [D] second, I went in, played with these dudes
that were clearly way too old for me and making up just horrible stuff.
[B] So I come out and Jeff's playing guitar.
I'm like, that's very [C] interesting.
Yeah, I play guitar and, you know, he's playing songs that I know,
like way back then it's like, you know, Death Leopard, Wasted,
[Eb] Highway Star, [Cm] Hoodstar, you know, and I'm like,
[F] ever think about getting in a band?
[B] I met him [G] auditioning for another band and he's working in a building outside.
But that's how I met [Eb] my man and that's how we started Slayer
and we just never looked back from there.
[Gb] Art can be a reflection of society.
[Eb] You know what I mean?
[B] And we're picking up the dark reflections.
[D] You know, and that's what we're reflecting.
But evil is everywhere, man.
Everybody's got it.
It sits really deep in everybody.
Some people can't control it as much as others.
But I think it's [Eb] there.
