Hey, what's up everyone out there?
This has been with next level guitar
Thanks so much for checking out the lesson today, and we are going to bring you three
Iconic blues licks these are really classic, and they're great to have in the vocabulary
So we're gonna have a good time doing this today
We're gonna be in the key of E and what I love about these three licks that we're gonna bring today
Is that they're all gonna be rooted off of the same chord note concept right so you can really just kind of park yourself
In one spot and go to town without having to change positions and head all over the neck
Sometimes it's nice to stay in one position for a while and really kind of milk a set of notes for all that
They're worth so that's gonna be how we're gonna frame today's lesson once again the key of E
I'm gonna be thinking about 12th position minor pentatonic scale so [Em] as a
So we're thinking about this scale
And we're [N] gonna focus on three core notes as a starting point to
Diverge into these three iconic licks so those three notes are the 14th fret bent up a [Gbm] whole step
[B] okay, then we're going to take the index finger and bar at [Em] the 12th fret and
Those are [F] our three core notes that in and of itself is a lick by [E] itself
Okay, so that move that move or that maneuver is going to be at the heart of the three core licks that we talked about today
So [Ab] once again that by itself.
I think can be an effective blues [E] lick
Now we're going [Gb] to use that as a jumping-off point to play a couple of different things.
Here's lick number one
[Em] So the addition that we made here
We return to the 12th fret second string
Then we're going to catch the 15th fret of the second string pick and slide that up to the 17th fret
[Gb] Finally add some vibrato so we can see that we're starting with our core three notes
followed by an
additional note and then a pick and slide
variation on it example number one would be to just start out with the core three notes and
Then immediately do the pick and slide
Okay, so that lick is iconic
we've heard that many times from a lot of our favorite players and I think [Eb] learning these iconic licks is a great way to
Be inspired, you know take that idea
build off of it use it as maybe a starting point for a guitar solo and
Use that as a launching point for some improvisation
So as we're going through all this information as you can see
We're taking a lot from minor pentatonic scales
And if you would like to see all of these positions
Diagrammed out for you to have this great resource as you're following along with the lesson
All you have to do is just click on the link that you see below if you click on this link
We will send you a free ebook and a video lesson that details all this information and it's a great resource a great thing to
Have by your side as you're practicing as you're jamming along
So just click on that link and we'll send that to you for free from next level guitar
Let's take that same three core notes once again
[Em]
Okay.
Now let's build on that
[F]
Again similar but some different note choices on the back end
[E] [G]
That is a bend of the 15th fret up a whole step and a release and then vibrato
Oftentimes when we're playing in a bluesy scenario, we want to add vibrato to close out a phrase
I think that's really effective too.
[N] So now we have two licks each with the same core three [Em] notes
[C]
Okay, our [Ab] third lick is once again going to start out with that core three [Em] notes
We're going to return to the 12th fret second string
[G] 15th fret this time.
We're going to bend up the [Ab] second string 15th fret a whole step [E]
to match the 12th fret first string
[Em]
Now what I like about this lick is you can either finish it there or you [A] can repeat the bend and fretted note
Continuously if [E] you'd like to very effective device so we can see even within these three licks
There's room for variation one last variation on our third idea
so
[Gb] in this example, we take our core lick and
[Em] We repeat the last three notes
So [B] let's now drop in these three core ideas over a jam track give them a little bit of context and
Notice how we're going to use these three core ideas is kind of a jumping-off point
We're going to do some improvising in between those core licks
But use those three core classic ideas plus variations to start to craft
improvised [Em] so
[E]
[Em] [Abm] [A]
[E] [A] [Em]
[E] [Em] [B]
[Eb] All
Right everybody so bends in with [C] next level guitar calm bringing you three classic iconic licks again
Kind of all in the same position
We like that because we see all the variation we can get with one core concept into three licks plus all the variety
Among those three licks we can have a party without even moving addition.
So we like that a lot
Next level guitar calm we like that a lot too because there are over
