[G]
[E] Hey guys, welcome back to [C] another lesson.
So this is becoming pretty popular for gospel guitar and it's all [F#] because of you guys.
[Dm] [B] So if you haven't already, go ahead and hit that subscribe button, like this video, watch
it all the way to the end.
It would be really helpful for me.
Alright, so let's get into the lesson.
So a lot of you guys saw that last lesson [C] where, well it wasn't a lesson, it was a video.
It was me and Audrey, we did her song Life's [F#] Ways.
And so you asked for me to break that down.
So I won't necessarily break that completely down, verbatim, but I will kind of show you
the main progression and what I was thinking when I came up with that idea.
So I'll play it for you real fast.
[Dm]
[Am] [G]
[A] [Am] [D]
[Am] [G]
[C]
Alright, so let's start with the bare bones.
I'm in the key of C.
[N] And so I'm walking up from the four to the six.
So we'll do F, G major, and then A minor.
[F]
[G]
[Am] [E]
[Am] [F]
[G] [Am]
And then I do a [E] lick again.
[Am] [F] F, now I add the [G] five.
[C] So that's a suspended C.
So sus2.
But I'm also putting the five in [G] the bass.
[C] And then I resolve it.
So I [C#] wanted to spruce up those [C] chords because that was pretty [F] bland.
Just [Am]
[N] go
So I started to add the nine chord.
So I'll show you what I'm doing there.
[A]
[F] So that's an F add nine.
So I'm leaving that bass note out, the F there.
[Em] And I'm starting with that first inversion, so I'm playing the third.
[A] [F]
So in that [C#m] key, well, in that F [C] chord, we have the [Am] third degree.
[B] We have [F] the one.
[E]
That G [G] is the nine.
[C] And then that C, the [Am] five.
[F] And then we're going to keep that same nine chord and [F#] move it up to the G.
[G]
But again, we're leaving that [Em] bass note out.
So we're doing [B] that first inversion.
[Bm]
[Am]
[D] [C] [G#] And there we're [E] playing [A] [D] that F major nine.
[F] So we have the [D] F major seven add nine.
[E] So it doesn't have a five in that chord.
It's because we have [F] the F, we have the A, [E] we have [Am] the major [Em] seven,
[A] and the five.
[D]
[C] [F]
[G] [Am]
So for the A minor, we're going to do the same thing.
We can [C] do this chord.
Let's see.
[Em] Yeah.
Let me clean it up.
[C]
It's a little stretch for me.
So [F#] with that A minor, if we leave that root [C] note [E] out, we start with that five,
the nine, [C] the minor third, [E] and the seven.
[C]
[D#] So let's see if I can do that in [Am] context.
[Bm]
[G] [E] [C]
Ah, yeah.
[Dm] [Am]
[G]
[C]
[F#] All right, guys.
Very simple lesson.
But I mean, we took that four, five, six.
[N] We added the ninth in all those chords.
And it really came to life.
So simple ideas, but a quick way to expand your chords using the ninth degree.
