[Cm] So what are the best things you can do to becoming an amazing singer?
In this video I'm going to give you 5 tips used by professional singers worldwide
that will help you to pave the way to becoming an amazing singer.
[Dm] Hi, my name is Josue Avila.
I'm a professional musician, professional singer
and one of the things I love to do is to help other people reach their full potential.
Tip number 1.
Rest.
[D] There's two ways that you can rest.
And [C#] that's [G] physical rest and vocal [C#] rest.
[Dm] For physical rest we need to [Gm] understand our [C#] physical
[Dm] limitations.
We shouldn't try pushing our [G#] bodies or our voices [C#m] past that [G#] limit.
[C#] If we do [G] there can be consequences.
[C#]
[Dm] Sleep.
[Gm] Sleep a lot.
If you [Dm] have extra time on your hands, take advantage [Gm] and sleep.
And then [Dm] we have voice rest.
[Em] There's absolute [E] voice rest, [Dm] which basically means absolute silence.
No talking.
[D] No singing.
But usually you don't have to worry about that one.
[G] Absolute voice rest usually is done after [Dm] you have a surgery or [Gm] something
and [A] the doctors [Dm] tell you not to say anything, not to [D] sing, not to say anything.
And then we have relative voice [C#] rest, [G] which basically means a [C#] reduced amount of [Dm] singing,
a reduced amount of [Gm] talking.
Make sure you don't [Dm] overload your voice or over [Gm] practice your voice.
It [Dm] doesn't matter how good [A] you are.
It doesn't matter how good you sing.
[E] [Dm] Don't try to be a tough guy.
Rest your voice.
[A#] Talent doesn't prevent you from [E] damage.
Now how do you identify [A] [G] vocal damage?
One of the ways is [Dm] hoarseness.
If you sing or [Gm] if you speak and it [A] hurts, [Dm] your body's telling you something.
If you suddenly have lots of phlegm, [G#m] your body's also trying [E] to tell you something.
Any type [G] of pain or discomfort, you want to just relax for [Dm] a little bit.
Your body's [Gm] trying to tell you [A] something.
[Dm] Tip number two, [Gm]
[Dm] hydrate.
Drink lots and lots and lots of water.
[N]
Over
[Dm] 70% of our bodies consist of water.
[G#] So water [E] is really important.
Another [C#] thing you can [G] do is get a pan, put some water in it [Dm] and boil that water.
[Gm] What you can do [F] is put some [Dm] essential oils in there, whether it's peppermint,
[G#] eucalyptus oil, even lavender oil.
So what you [C#] do [Gm] is you put a towel over your [C#] head and [Dm] you put your face above [Gm] the boiling water and just [Dm] breathe in all of that [Gm] vapor.
The good thing about [Dm] that is that it helps reduce [C#] some of the phlegm that you might [Dm] have on your vocal cords, down your throat.
It helps [D] keep everything hydrated.
[E] Another thing you can do is [C#m] keep with [G] you a nice little [C#] humidifier, [Dm] like this one.
I like to take [Gm] this little guy with [A] me when I travel.
[Dm] Helps keep the room hydrated,
[D] moist, [E] helps [G#] keep my throat [C] hydrated.
I put [Gm] it on when I sleep.
[C#]
[Dm] [Gm]
Just [Dm] breathing.
[Gm] [B]
[Dm] Tip number three, warm up your [D] voice before singing.
Doing [E] warm ups is super, super [C#] important.
[Gm] It's like warming up the engine of your car before you take off.
I [Dm] recommend at least 15 or 20 [Gm] minutes of vocal [C#] warm ups before you start [Dm] a show.
Find your favorite warm up videos on YouTube.
[D] Do it anywhere, [E] especially in the shower.
[D] Breathing all that [G] hot water is going to help you out a lot.
[C#] Vocal warm ups prevent [Dm] injury and strain.
[Gm] There are lots of breathing [Dm] exercises and scale [Gm] warm ups that will definitely help you [Dm] before singing.
Tip number four, pay attention to [G#] your diet.
Now I know this is a really, [C#] really hard one [Gm] because I love food.
[Dm] Those that know me, you know I love [Gm] food.
Some of the good things [F] to eat before [Dm] singing is fruit.
Not all fruit, but some [D] fruit, like bananas and apples or watermelon.
You can even take [C#] a [G] spoonful of coconut oil.
[C#] That will help [Dm] you lubricate and soothe your [Gm] vocal cords.
Ginger [Dm] tea, peppermint tea, [Gm] even with a little bit of honey will help [Dm] you out.
The things that are bad to eat before a performance.
Pretty much [G#] any dairy product.
Whether it's milk, [C#] whether it's yogurt [G] or cheese.
Drinking soda is [Dm] horrible before singing [Gm] or anything [F] that dehydrates [Dm] you before a show.
Whether it's coffee or even alcohol.
[D] Physical exercise helps out a lot.
[C#m] Even if it's [D] power walking [C#] or jogging.
[G] Getting your heart pumping, getting that blood [Dm] flowing will help you not only create [Gm] more stamina,
it also helps bring [Dm] down some of the phlegm that you might [Gm] have on your throat.
[Dm] Tip number five, challenge yourself.
[E] Sing more, sing as much as [D] you can.
The more [C#] you sing, the better you get, believe it or not.
Try to get away from [Dm] singing all the easy stuff.
Start [G] getting into the more difficult things [Dm] that you find is harder to sing.
The more [D] you do those difficult songs, [A#] the more [D] you do those difficult [Gm] exercises,
the easier it's going [Dm] to become.
Be determined.
[Gm] Don't quit.
[Dm] If you follow these tips on a daily [Gm] basis, it will [Dm] pave the way for you to be [A] an [E] amazing singer.
