Hey, what's up you guys?
This is Daquan Bowens with [D] daquanbowens.com
here to help musicians take their playing to the next level.
And today I want to show you guys a really cool chord.
It'll be in C major.
[C] And this will be on the flat 6, which is Ab.
[Ab] Okay, the chord is Ab11b5.
Okay, and here's the chord in the regular voicing or root position.
Alright, so we have the 1, [D] the 3, the flat [Bb] 5, the 7, the [Gb] 9, and the 11.
Okay, [D] but we're going [Ab] to play it in a different voicing.
Alright, and I like to use this chord in between my 6 and 5.
So if I'm playing a progression that has an A minor or 6 chord,
and it goes down to a [G] flat 6 to a 5, I'll play [Ab] that chord right here.
But here's the voicing.
We have the 1, [Ebm] the 7, [Gb] the 11, and we'll double up on the 7 again.
We have the [D] 9, and we'll have that flat [Gb] 5 right there.
Okay, and right there it may not sound like too interesting,
or maybe it sounds interesting, but [D] it may sound wrong to certain people.
But in context, this is really cool.
Okay, so before that, on my [Eb] 6 chord, I like to play [G]
this Am11, or G over Ab.
[A] Okay, so [G] if you learn this chord right [Bm] here, or this voicing of the chord,
[G] A, G, D, G, B, and E,
you'll bring everything [Em] down a half step except for the highest [G] note, which is D.
Okay, [Ab] and all of a sudden now it makes sense.
It sounds really cool.
Okay, [E] so it's really all about context.
Alright, [Ab] and then I'll go down [G] to the 5, which is Fmaj7 over G,
and I resolve it to a Gb9, [C] and go to the 1.
Okay, so this is a really [Ab] cool chord.
You know, you want to sound pro.
You want to sound like you got some chords in your bag of tricks.
Apply this chord.
It really works well on the flat 6, going down to the 5.
[D] Okay, so
