I'm happy enough to get to do a lot of audits and get to meet you [F] guys.
[C]
When I do, a lot of the time, I meet a lot of people who either write songs or want to write songs.
And the number one question that I get asked a [F] lot is, [C] how do you know what to write a song about?
Where do you know where you start?
[F] And for me, I guess [C] the answer is, I guess the easiest answer, the most simple answer,
is think about how many things you have wanted to say to someone, but you have been too scared to say it to them
for fear of their reaction to what you would [Fm] tell them.
[C] Over the course of the day, I think we just did hundreds, if not thousands of things we wish we could say
for a great number of people.
If we didn't have to see the reaction or hear the [F] response to us [C] saying what we actually feel
about someone, about a situation.
[F]
[C] Writing a song is kind of like saying whatever you want to say to the person.
Whatever you wanted to say the most.
And then being able to push pause on the moment and not have to see that person's [F] response.
[C]
So it's like you're putting a message in a bottle, writing whatever you wanted to say.
[F] Whether it's, [C] I secretly love you, or I'm really still heartbroken, or what you said really hurt me,
or you made me happier in an emotional world and I love everything about you and I never told you before,
or you're my best friend and I never want to lose you.
All those things, it's like saying any of that.
Putting it in a bottle.
Throwing it into the ocean.
Maybe they'll see it, maybe they won't.
Maybe that's a really, really cowardly way to live your life, but maybe it's also the bravest way you could live your life.
I haven't really decided which one [Fm] is what.
[C]
I don't know.
[G] This is a song.
[Em]
[G] It was all the things that I wanted to say to somebody.
[F] But [Fm] instead, [F]
I just wrote this song.
Because everything about this person, [Fm] I couldn't forget.
I just wanted to love you.
To love.
[N] [C] I never actually told you.

[C] Falling, reaching, falling down like [G] pieces in a flake.
And [Am] I picture it.
Too [F] long in the last days.
[C] And now it's long gone.
The [G] things that you said I needed more.

Your [G] cheeks were turning red.
Used to be [Am] the kid's glasses [F] in the twins.
Spent [C] the mother's telling stories about the child.
The tea [G] party.
[Am] You told me about your past. Your [F] future.
And [C] I'm gone.
[G] There's nothing I can do.
[Am] I thought you'd want [G] to give what I needed.
