_ _ _ _ [Cm] Hey everybody, Corey at Gemini Guitar.
Today we're going to be looking at using the E natural
minor scale with some open strings to create gothic style droning ideas.
_ _ Ok, so first I'm going to take you through the scales on the single strings, then we're
going to look at three approaches with me and a backing track.
Here's the possibilities on string 2 for E natural minor.
So on string 2 we have C, D,
[E] _ _ [Em] E, _ F [D#m] sharp, _ [G] G, _ _ [A] A, [G] B, _ [C] back to C.
And of course from that point on we've got our octave notes.
[G] So for example D, _ [A#] [C] E, [G] F sharp, G. _ _ _ _
_ The first approach I'm going to demonstrate uses those
notes with the open first string [E] E. _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ [Em] _ _ _ [Bm] _ [E] _ _
_ _ _ _ [C] _ _ [E] _ _
[A] _ _ _ [E] _ _ _ _ _
_ [Em] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[E] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[Em] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[E] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ Ok, so let's learn the natural minor scale on the
fourth string.
Now this time we can start on our root note E.
So we have E at fret 2,
string 4, _ [F#] F sharp, _ [G] G, _ _ [A] A, _ _
[B] _ _ _ _ [C] _ _ _ [Am] _
[Dm] _ _ [E] E. _ _ _ _
[G] The second approach demonstrates the use of these notes with
the open third, second [Em] and first strings.
_ _ _ _ [Bm] _
[Em] _ _ _ _ _ _ [Bm] _ _

[Em] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

_ Now to the last approach we're going to be
utilizing the natural minor scale on the fifth string and this time with the open sixth string
[E] E. _
So let's learn our notes on the fifth string.
[B] We've got B, [C] C, _ [D] D, [E] E, F [F#] sharp, G, [G] _ [A] A, _ _ [Em] and B.
[B] And of course we can go further up there to get to the octave.
_ [E] The following demonstration
makes an example of using the open sixth string with the notes we learnt on the fifth string. _ _ _ _ _ _
