Billy Strings picking up his Thompson Guitar in Sisters, Oregon chords
Start Jamming...
[G] [Em] We had a real special visitor come to pick up his guitar, [G] Billy Strings.
[Em] Billy's somebody that I've spoken to [A] on the phone a [D] number of times over the last year or so,
[G] but never got to meet him in person, and finally did, and I tell you, it was great.
What a [N] picker, what a great [G] guy, and he loved his guitar.
He's had a mahogany dreadnought for some time now, [Am] but liked it [Em] so much he wanted a Brazilian rosewood dreadnought.
And he got a chance to meet everybody in the shop, spend some time here with his whole band, and it was just [C] a lot of [N] fun.
That evening he gave a concert in Bend, and [G] everybody went here in the shop.
It was just [F] a great crowd, [E] and what a [F] performance that was.
It's Preston Thompson, and some of his [Dbm] buddies over [E] there that built some really good instruments.
[Bb]
So forgive all the absent me just like going [Em] like
It was a thrill [F] for us, [Eb] and I think we got a real friendship between Thompson Guitars and Billy Strings for a long time to come.
[B] Thanks, Billy.
Oh, yeah.
[D] Oh, [Bm] Billy, Billy, Billy.
Oh, yeah.
[B] Yeah, he done good.
Oh, look at that blue shit.
Has he [N] been playing it hard?
Oh, my God, he's worn this [G] thing
[N] There's like no finish here.
This looks beautiful.
It's great.
Big reveal.

[A] My name's Gareth Jenkins, [E] and I do [Em] the bracing and carving and voicing [Dbm] of the guitars.
Having somebody like Billy [Em] Strings [Gb] endorse [G] us is a real honor.
It really validates what we're [A] trying to do here.
We're trying to make the [E] best instruments on the market [A] [Gb] in a vintage style,
[Abm] and to have people like Billy with [A] his abilities and his ear [Bb] [A] to [E] choose us is a real honor for us.
It feels great.
[D]
[G] [E] I work here [B] at Thompson Guitars doing string up and assembly and final dials on the guitar,
and, yeah, I was pretty proud to work on Billy [A] Strings' guitar and see him play it [B] here in Bend, Oregon last week.
It was definitely one of the prouder moments for me to see an instrument that I put so much time and energy into
and just to see it get played like that right off the bat.
[G] Hey, man.
Really good.
All right, man.
Thank you.
It's a pleasure.
Yeah, I'm glad you're here.
[C] It's just a [Gm] great little [G] shop with great instruments.
Well, I'm not going to put this thing down, but let's go [Abm] check out [G] the shop real [Gb] [G] quick.
Let [E] [Eb] them dry and then spray them again?
[Dm] Yeah, they get about [A] 12 to 15 [Eb] coats, and we usually do three coats in a spray day.
[D] Then they sit overnight [Eb] and they're all sanded and then [G] shot again.
And then it looks like that.
Yeah, they come out looking like this.
And we are all super proud to have put a really nice [Gb] instrument in his hand [B] to share with the rest of the world
and to [E] continue making some of the most awesome [Gb] bluegrass-inspired, psychedelic bluegrass music that we've [E] ever heard.
So, yeah, I'm looking [G] forward to seeing how much damage you can do to my finish.
[F] I've always [A] had mahogany guitars, but when I [C] played, [G] you guys had one at [D] Carter's,
which is also where I fell in love with this [E] idea, with the logo on the back of the headstock and the torch on the front.
[Dm] I'm just going to
You're never going to stop looking at this thing, are you?
Yeah, [Eb] I'm just going to sit it there and look at [E] it.
And then I [Eb] might flip it over and look [G] at the back of it.
Let's play one [Gm] last little tune before we
