[E] Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain, big hit for Willie Nelson.
It was written by Fred Rose and before [G] Willie did it, Roy Yacuff did [D] it, Hank Williams did
[Ab] it, a number of people have done the [C] song.
We're going to do Willie's [Bb] version.
His version is in the key of E, so we're going to have two guitar parts that we're going
to play [Ab] on the acoustic.
The first one is going to be the basic rhythm part, we're going to put a capo on the second
fret and play [Abm] key of D chord shapes.
And then we're going to play the [A] acoustic lead part with no capo, so we'll use key of
E chord shapes and we're going to include that really [G] nice acoustic solo [Gb] that we hear
on that original recording.
[N]
[E]
In the twilight, I see blue [B]
eyes crying [E] in the rain.
When we kiss goodbye and parted, I'll [Bm]
[Bb] [A] someday when we meet up
yonder,
[E] we'll stroll hand in hand [B] again.
[E] In a land that knows no parting,
[B] through ice and fright,
in the [E] rain, [B]

[A] someday when we meet up yonder,
[E] we'll stroll hand in hand [B] again.
In this [E] tutorial we're going to go over the rhythm [G] acoustic guitar part.
[Gb] We're going to put a capo on the second fret.
This will get us out of the register of that lead acoustic part just a little bit, a couple frets up.
And [Bb] we're going to be playing key of D shapes.
[G] So except for the bridge walk down that you see on that GM along, [Bm] [Bb]
[A] we just have three chords
other [Ab] than that little [E] one measure section.
We have [B] Ds, [A]
A7s, and Gs.
So for a standard D chord [E] we have open D string, [Gb] two frets above the capo on the [E] G string,
three frets above the capo, excuse [Ab] me, and two frets above the capo on [E] the high E string.
Then for [B] A7, we'll play open A string, we'll mute this low E string.
[E] Down, down, down, down, up, down, down, down, down, up, down, down, down, down, up.
Then as we transition to that A7, that final [Gb] upstroke, I'm really just playing an open
set of these top strings.
It's just for a split second and it's [Bb] not going to affect the sound, just lets us get
these fingers in place here [A] on this A7.
For the first time he sings Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain, we're going to be on the A7 with
the same strum [B] pattern.
Down, down, down, down, up, down, down, down, down, up.
[E] [B] Blue eyes crying [E]
when we kissed.
In this tutorial [Ab] we'll be going over the acoustic lead [E] part for Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain.
Everything except for [B] the solo.
We're going to do the solo in its own tutorial.
[G] So let's [B] jump right in here for the introduction.
We won't be using the cable, we'll be using key of E shapes for this.
[G] And Willie starts by playing [A] something like this.
[E]
And then the lyrics come in.
[Bm] So let's get just that much.
[E] So as you can see, we're on a standard E chord here.
That's open low E string, second fret, second fret, [Db] first fret, open B, [E] open high E.
But usually when you have this kind of country 1-5-1-5 alternating bass pattern, it would
be, you start with the 1, right?
But Willie does something kind of cool here, and we start with the 5.
So we're going to [D] hammer on to the second fret of A with our middle finger.
[B] And then we're [E] going to do the down, up, and then hit the low E string.
Down, up, one more hammer on.
So that's the intro.
Let's look at the instrumental break [Abm] for Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain, [D] which is really a
fine [Eb] piece of acoustic picking here from Willie.
I'll play through it once [C] nice and slow, then [Dbm] we'll go through it note by note, and then
at full speed with the metronome.
It's all tabbed out [A] underneath the video player at [G] 6stringcountry.com.
So it looks like this, coming out of that last chorus, [E]
then we do this.
[Ab] [E]
[Gbm]

[E] [B] Three and [E] go.
