Try was written differently than it ended up.
It was written to be sort of an upbeat R&B tune,
and I really wanted to, you know,
I was very smitten with all things falsetto.
And so I wrote this song, you know,
trying to create a little emotional drama
and then trying to figure out a style
in which I could play, sing falsetto.
And the original part of the song is pretty silly.
I mean, it does exist, and it's pretty funny to hear.
So it took us a while to figure out
how to make the song work.
And then it was one of the songs, of course,
that we brought back from New York
to the band that we put together
as the original Blue Rodeo,
and instantly that song worked.
Like it was just, wow, this is,
first of all, it was great to sing.
They understood exactly what to do.
And we knew that that was a very popular song
because everywhere we played,
we would be asked to do it twice.
So I don't think we [Em] understood
what it would ultimately become when it was recorded,
but we certainly understood that for some reason
it was a real galvanizing piece for us.
[A]
Don't tell [D] me I'm [E] wrong
Cause I've [D] been watching every move that you [A] make
[E] The [B] hunts you steal
[D] [C#m] And you make up in years
[D]
Trouble for the man that you [A] take
[C#m] Every time you [A] walk in [D] the room
Could never [Bm] be sure to smile
[D] Never the same [C#m] way twice
I'm falling [D] in love
Night [Bm] after night
[D] It's crazy
[Bm]
Ooh, [A] ooh
So many people [E] have said
Oh, [D] girl, you got nothing but [A] time
A [C#m]
shining star
[F#m] Don't worry what [D] you're leaving [A]
behind
Every [C#m] time you walk [D] in the room
Could never be [Bm] sure to smile
[D]
Never the same [C#m] way twice
I'm [D] falling in love
Night [Bm] after night
[D]
It's crazy
Oh, [A] you got to try, [C#m] try, [F#m] try
How don't you know [A] you got to try, [C#m] try, [F#m]
try
Baby, [D] you try, [C#] [Bm] oh, [A] oh, [E] [D]
[F#m] [Bm] [A] oh
[C#m] [D]
[A] Every [C#m]
time you walk [D] in the room
Could never [Bm] be sure to smile
