Start Jamming...
Okay, so here's the first of our videos in our ukulele bluegrass basics series
All the tabs are available via email in the information below the video
we're going to start with taking a really simple tune boiled cabbage down and
Showing four different ways to play it
And you'll see it all on the tablature.
So
Yeah, let's get started.
I'll play each one of the little variations nice and slow for you
The first one we're playing our melody with our thumb and then strumming the proper chord [C] afterwards
[F] [C]
[B]
[C] [F]
[C] [B] [C]
again
[F]
[Am] [Dm]
[B] [C] [F]
[Am] [G]
[C] And then the second variation we're getting started on using our fingers like banjo players do
So it starts with just your two fingers at the same time on two different strings and your thumb on the fourth string
[G]
[C]
Okay
So
[G]
[C]
next we're going to use those same two fingers and thumb, but instead of playing these two together
We're going to as written in the tablature
We're going to do two one thumb two one thumb two thumb, and it's that way the whole song
So check it out.
This is our second page there
[G] [C]
[G] [C]
[G] [C]
[G] [C]
[N] So again, that's two one thumb two one thumb two thumb two one thumb two one
Thumb two thumb and you can just practice that over and over [Am] even just on your open strings
[C] So
[Em] just do that over and over again until you're ready to do it with the tablature
Notice it was the same notes as the one before it just with a fancier pattern
This next one is more like the same notes from our first version
But a different fancy pattern and it's one two thumb one two thumb one thumb
One two thumb one two thumb one thumb
So anyway, let's check it out.
This is our low version using another banjo rule
[C]
[G]
[C]
[G]
[C] Let me do that again follow the tablature nice and closely
So
[G]
[C]
[Fm]
[C] [G] [C]
[N] except for that little bit at the end.
It's all one two thumb one two thumb one thumb
So both of these are both of those last versions are finger lead banjo patterns
One has the second finger leading one is the first finger leading so it's really useful to get both those together
So you can put a tune wherever you need to on your ukulele
so yeah, that's the four versions of boil the cabbage down and
Make sure to email me to get the tabs for it and all the other tabs.
There'll be five more videos.
