Chords for Bossa Nova Jazz Samba Groove - Advanced Piano Lesson

_ _ _ Hey guys, in this lesson we're going to cover some Brazilian music.
This pattern is kind of a bossa nova.
It's pretty complicated rhythmically between the left hand and the right hand parts.
So if you can just pick out the right hand part or the left hand part, it'll still be useful.
You don't have to learn both hands together because that's going to take a lot of practice. _ _ _ _ _ _

_ _ _ _ _ _ First we want to isolate the right hand pattern and slow it down a lot to practice it. _ _

_ _ _ _ _ _ [G] Here's the right hand playing a little bit faster with the D minor [F] 9 and the C major 9 quotes.

_ _ _ [F] _ _ _ _ [G] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [D] _
_ We're going to play with the left hand.
[Dm] _ _ [G] _
_ [C] _ _ [F] _ _ _ When we take the root out, it kind of looks like F major 7.
[D] _ _ _ _ [F] _ _
_ _ _ This is [Gm] optional, but your middle finger can move down.
[F] _ _ _ [Dm] _ _ [F] _ _ [B] _
_ [F] _ _ _ _ [C] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [Em] _
_ [G] _ _ [Em] _ C, E, [Gm] and B.
_ _ _ [Cm] So we're going to play the root down here with our left hand.
[C] _ _ [Gm] And your middle finger with the right hand can move to A if you [Em] want.

_ this example I've simplified the pattern a little bit.
[F] We're only going to play quarter notes [Dm] in the left hand on the root.
And the right hand is only going to play half of the rhythmic pattern. _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [Am] One trick that helps me is to think both hands.
Right hand, left hand, right hand.
Here it [Dm] is in rhythm.
Both right, left right. _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [D] _
_ _ _ _ Up to the fifth. _
_ So it would be to the A.
Or it can go down to the A. _ _
[F] Either one, that's up to you.

In this variation, notice my middle [Am] finger in my right hand is going between the 7th and the [G] 6th of each chord.
