This is gonna be hit and miss.
There might be some mistakes on the show.
I'll tell you what, there's gonna [A] be some really good music.
Make no mistake, stay tuned for the first collaboration between Buck Owens [C] and Merle [C#m] Haggard in 30 years.
In over three decades since the boys from Bakersfield, Buck Owens and Merle Haggard shared the same stage.
Stormy Warren made a trip to California for the collaboration [Bm] that turned into a legendary concert.
_ [B] When Merle Haggard decided to gather a few of his Bakersfield buddies for a music video, little did he know he was creating one of country music's most historic nights.
It just kind of wrote itself.
[E] [D#] Yeah.
[G] It just kind of, I had a song.
[N] It's kind of about Bakersfield and in fact every other line.
It is about Bakersfield.
It's really could be called Bakersfield, but it's called [C] Beer Can Hill. _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [Gm] _ _ [C] _
It's a natural for Buck and I and Dwight [Bm] to do it.
And [N] then it was a natural to do the video here in town while I was doing the show here, while we had the people get it up.
_ And everything sort of, all the dominoes fell into place because we needed all the participation of all the people, I guess, that I ever knew in my life in order to pull this little video off.
We almost had to have a concert around it to make it work.
Not only are they living legends, but they're two people that had a profound impact on my musical life.
And it was an honor to be asked to come up and do this with them.
_ I'd like to say it's an honor to be on the stage with these two guys tonight.
Well, _ _ that just leaves me, don't it?
[F#] And I'm damn glad to be here.
[G] Not only did the show unite the troubadours of the Bakersfield sound, it was the first time Buck and Merle have shared a stage in over 30 years.
No more [C] loneliness, only [G] happiness.
Love's gonna live here again.
Tonight to me is a very special night.
It's, uh, to be [N] able to be here with Hag and see all these thousands of people out here and to know that, I gotta tell you something, this town is just as excited.
I've never seen it more excited than this tonight.
What do y'all want to hear?
_ As for the definition of their famous Bakersfield sound, Buck made it plain and simple.
It's what [B] Merle and I do.
You hear [A] that?
And a cryin' time [E] for me had [Em] just [A] begun.
_ _ _ _ No Merle [B] and Buck reunion would be complete without Bonnie Owens, [N] the one woman who can claim both legends as ex-husbands.
We're both married to her.
She's right out there.
[B] She's the reason, probably, that [N] all this, uh, not the reason, she's been one of the avenues of communication between Buck and I for years. Yeah, always.
If Buck wanted me to know something, he'd tell Bonnie.
With Buck's first public performance in three years and the trio's first [D] collaboration ever under their belt, is there [A] a chance for more from the boys of Bakersfield?
I don't [C#] think that we can rule anything out, as the politicians [A] say.
We [N] don't know which door.
We're happy to be here.
I'm happy to be here and be part of it.
Same here.
It's a great thing.
It's a great thing for us.
I think it's a great thing for me personally, you know, to be involved in something that this whole town loves so much.
We [A] represent the end results of all the years of country music in this town.
[E] _ [A] _
_ _ [E] Let me marry you [A] again.
