And um, [N] I told the girls out back I actually want to take a little hillbilly home with me.
Sam, you're too young.
No.
I actually so want to take Chad Morgan [C] home with me.

Chad Morgan is a major part of the foundation of Australian country music up there with text buddy and slim
He was born in Wandi in Queensland in 1933
Chad was so tormented by his trademark teeth when he was a youngster that he made an appointment
to have them removed, but the farm truck broke down, so he missed the appointment and never made another.
Now they earned him a living.
At 16, Chad penned a comical song that would later become his signature tune.
The Sheik of Scrubby Creek was intended as a serious love ballad to win the heart of a girl.
Halfway through writing he thought, I can get any shein I want, I'm a sheik.
The rest, as they say, is a career.
The Sheik of Scrubby Creek, backed with You Can Have Your Women and I'll Stick to My Booze,
was released in 1952.
The Sheik was the biggest seller in Australia, outselling international entertainers Bing
Crosby and Frank Sinatra.
He went on to tour extensively with Slim Dusty Show and the All-Star Western Show, his own
Chad Morgan Show, Normie Rowe, and even Mental Is Anything.
I reckon good comedy songs are the hardest to write, and he's the best.
His songs are peppered with Australian slang like shanlas, drongos, dills and deezens.
And I am very proud that I have recorded a duet with Chad.
It's called A Country Balladeer.
Chad has had platinum and gold album sales.
He was inducted into the Australasian Country Music Roll of Renown in 1987 and awarded an
OAM in 2004.
Our very own Sheik is a master of audience control and remains one of the biggest drawcards
in the history of Australian Country Music.
He has seen many changes in the industry and has lived through good and bad times.
But he's just as popular today as he was 50 years ago.
A true showman.
Slim Dusty dubbed him the Crown Prince of Comedy.
But he's more than that.
He has showed us how to be true to who you really are.
My mate Chad Morgan.
Come and get your lifetime award.

The gold guitar.
If the gold guitar awards had been out years ago, you would have had a box full of them.
Here it is, your gold guitar, Chad.
Well, I must say [N] it's a little bit of a surprise.
Thank you very much, John.
And for those nice things you've said about me.
I'm going to thank a few people, like all of you.
A couple of special ones.
My daughter, Wendy, who bought me this suit.
She said you might blind somebody with it, but wear it anyway.
My wife, Joan, who stuck with me right through thick and thin when I was right down.
She helped me when I gave up the blues.
A lot of people think she made me, but she didn't.
I decided to, but she stuck by me and helped me.
Thank you, Joan.
A little bit of advice for any of you young people who are starting out.
Country music.
First of all, learn to play a guitar.
[D] Refer to [C] yourself.
Stay down to bottom for 58 years and you might get a gold guitar.
