Hey, what's up you guys?
Marty Schwartz here of Marty Music.
Thank you for supporting me right here at my thing.
Thank you very much.
We're going to break down Chris Stapleton's new tune, Capo on the first fret.
Nice easy strummer for you guys.
And also if you want to get deeper into like really learning guitar, I have these multi-hour
digital HD courses from Marty Music that I want to give you for free.
So you can just sign my newsletter and you'll get them based on your skill level.
So my first comment down there, you'll see a link right to it.
I appreciate that.
Anyway, let's break down this tune.
All right.
So like I said, Capo on the first fret and then we're going to play G major chord and
we're going to do this double fingering G major.
So third fret B, third fret high E.
And I'm just going to start with the down strum.
So we got down, down.
Then we move these two fingers back a string.
So third fret A, second fret D, and that's called a C add nine.
These stay.
So you got G, [Db] C [Ab] add nine, G.
So check it out.
[Db] [Ab]
Index finger is already where [Fm] it needs to be for an E minor chord and back [Ab] to that G
and [Fm] then that C to G.
[Ab]
So it's all [G] pretty, I mean, easy, easier type of [Ab] chords.
So G, G, [Db] [Ab] C, G, [Fm] then E minor to [Ab] G and [Db] then C to G.
[Ab] And that's almost the whole song.
So [Bb] let's do that like two times [A] in a row.
I'll say the chords out loud.
Then we'll start getting [Ab] a rhythm going.
So G, G, [Db] [Ab] C, G, [F] E [Ab] minor, G, [Db] [Ab] C, G.
One more time.
Here we go.
G, [Fm] G, [Ab] C, G, [Fm] [Ab] E minor, G, [Db] C, [Ab] G.
[N]
Down, down, down, down, up, up, up, down, up, down, up, down, down, down, up, up, up,
down, down, up, down, down down, up, up, up, down, up, down, down, down, [Eb] up, up,
[G] up, down, up, [Eb] down, up.
But my arms swinging up and down the whole time.
Down, down, down, [B] down, up.
[Ab] Down, [B] down, down, down, up, up.
[C]
Down, down, down, [Eb] down, up, up, up, up.
Down, up, down, up, down, down, down, down, up, up, up, down, up, down, up,
Down, down, up, up, up, down, up, down, [F] up.
[Ab] [Db] [Ab]
[Fm] [Ab] [Db] [Ab]
[Db] [Ab]
[Fm] [Ab] [Db] [Ab]
So that gives you [B] a starting point,
but I like to, I've said this before,
but I like to vary the rhythm,
and he does it in the song too.
But if you're a beginner, that's a great way
to get going on this song.
And that is gonna be the whole song.
There's a bridge section that does have a bar chord.
Only happens once in the song.
But there's something else.
So he'll tag the E minor part extra.
After [Ab] the choruses.
So, you know, doing the chorus.
[Db] [Ab] [Fm] [Ab]
[Db] [Ab] And he'll do that again.
[Db] [Ab] [Fm] [Ab]
[Db] [Ab] Now, just straight [Fm] to the E minor part.
[Ab] [Db] [Ab] [Cm]
So he'll do that extra after the choruses,
and, you know, to end the song, he does that too.
Now here's the bridge.
You could play the song without the bridge
and have it be a great campfire song,
but the bridge is gonna be a B minor for one pattern,
[Ab] then to G for one pattern,
then back to B [Cm] minor,
[Ab] but the C add nine [Db] for two times.
And then again.
[Ab]
[F] So that is the bridge.
I'm gonna play it one more time for you.
And then you're on your way.
Here we go, B [Cm] minor to [Ab] G.
We're gonna go back [Cm] to B minor,
and then the C [Db] add nine.
C add nine again.
[Ab] And then you're right at the top.
[Db] [Ab] [Fm] [Ab] [Db]
[Ab] So something to watch for.
[G]
[Eb] Some of the chord changes are on [Ab] those ups.
[Db] [Ab] [Eb] So it's that time it goes back to G.
It's on [Ab] the up strum.
Down, down, down, down, up, up, up, down, up, [Db] down, up,
down, [Ab] down, down, down, down, up, up, up, [Db] down, up,
down, up, down, down, [Ab] down, down,
oh, sorry, wrong chord, but rhythmically.
Down, down, down, down, up, up, [Db] up, down, up, down, up,
down, down, [Ab] down, down, up, up, up,
down, [Fm] up, down, up, down, down, down,
[Ab] Up, up, up, [Db] down, up, down, up, down, [Ab] down, down, down, up, up, up, down, up, down, up.
So when it's going back, it's those anticipated rhythms.
[Db] [Ab]
[Fm] [Ab] [Db]
