This is Tom Kiefer and you are watching Loudwire.
[E]
[F#] There were a lot of kids in my
neighborhood or teenagers that were older than me at the time and they were coming up on like that 60s hard rock stuff and
there was a few garage bands that played around and
and they were older than me and I used to go sit and watch them jam in their garages and
one of the guys across the street showed me the cream riff for Sunshine of Your Love and
which was the first hard rock riff that I
ever played and it just felt so cool.
I played it over and over and over, you know,
and I haven't played it in years, but I think this is [A] the right key.
[E]
[Em] And I just played that over and over and over on my acoustic guitar.
It didn't sound as cool as that.
I didn't have an electric yet, but that's the first riff.
You know, I remember hearing after that bands like Zeppelin, you know, and the Stones.
I think one of the first Stones riffs I learned is Jumpin' Jack [B] Flash.
[F#] We [D]
[B] [D]
[G#] jammed that, you know, in our garage bands.
Another huge influence on me was Michael Shanker and
UFO and I love the Only You [E] Can Rock.
[B]
[A] [E]
[B] [E]
What was so great about that song and the solo was like an anthem.
It's so melodic in that song and Michael Shanker's ability to mix really nasty blues with melody
was just, you know, like he's like nobody else.
I love the riff from Pack It Up and Go.
[Em] [E]
[A] [G] [E] Nasty riff and then he comes in with
[G]
[F#]
that cracked wah sound, you know, I love that.
Really loved blues, you know, got into blues at a pretty early age.
Johnny Winter, Only You Can Rock [A] Me.
[G] [C]
[G] [C]
[Em] [Am] [E]
You know, Johnny, all the slide stuff.
All the slide stuff Johnny Winter did.
My rock heroes
had influences and it was called the blues and B.B. King, you know, started to realize how simple just two notes when B.B. King would just go
[G]
[F] and hold that note.
[F#] Sometimes that meant more than all the, you know.
So I just started soaking all that stuff up too and eventually got into slide and open tuning.
Love the sound that Elmore James had when he did that.
[G]
Right, I mean that was his famous lick.
[D]

Kicks off Long Cold Winter.
I remember here in Highway to Hell
I used to tune this little crappy radio next to my bed when I was a kid.
I was like, oh man, who is that singing?
You know, Bon Scott was just so badass and the rhythm guitar,
just the electricity of that
sound.
[A] Is
[E] that right?
Well, the name of the album is Rise and it'll be out September 13th.
You can pre-order now and it's
got tons of heavy stuff.
It's got
some acoustic stuff.
It's got stuff in between.
A song called All Amped [A] Up.
[E]
[A] [C]
[E] [Am] [A]
[E] [Am]
A little taste of All Amped Up.
Well, the [G] new single, The Death of Me.
