If you were making the college bar scene around Cleveland, Ohio in the early 70s, you definitely would have caught Circus.
In 1973, Circus was voted top rock band in Cleveland through a reader's poll in the Cleveland Press newspaper.
While this album came out in 72, its first single, Stop, Wait and Listen, was released in early 1973.
A couple of the members of Circus went on to join other groups like the Michael Stanley Band and Magic.
Magic was the backing band for Eric Carman on his debut LP, which featured the big hit single, All By Myself.
Well, Stop, Wait and Listen really didn't do well nationally.
It should have, though.
This is truly a tune that should have been a much bigger hit.
It only made it up to number 91.
It's got all the elements of a great power pop top 40 rock song.
Great driving beat, outstanding harmonies and vocals, and that catchy hook plus that scratching guitar sound.
Stop, Wait and Listen, I think, will sound best if we kind of go back to the way things sounded in 1973 on the radio.
Imagine driving along, you're listening to a commercial on the legendary Wixie 1260 WIXY radio.
The jingle for the radio station comes on and boom, right into Stop, Wait and Listen.
Well, here it comes with Circus and Wixie together.
