[Bb] Starving to be Empty is targeted [Ab] around eating [Eb] disorders, specifically [Bb] related to anorexia.
And [Ab] it's,
[Abm] you know, I enjoy doing [Bb] quite a bit of like perspective writing in our music.
[Ab] And so, thankfully, I've never had to deal with an eating disorder personally.
[B] This is about somebody I was very close with at [Ab] the time who, [Abm] again, like she was very [Bb] brave enough [Ab] to kind of call me and just like really open up to me about what she experienced going through this.
Because she's been battling it for what I know, like the better part [Gb] of 20 years.
And [Ab] it's just, you know, it's [Fm] things where I think you might think you like have an idea [Gb] of what it would be like to have an eating [D] disorder.
Or I think a lot of times, [Bbm] like naively, I would really [Fm] think like,
[Gb] like, it's not that hard, like just [Bbm] eat like it doesn't have to be that [Db] complicated.
And it was it was [Ab] actually like, [Gb] kind of like a wake up call [Bbm] or just like a really big, [Ab] like slap in the face to kind of hear her talk about [Db] it.
And that she told me that she felt like borderline schizophrenic sometimes because she has [Abm] this constant internal [Bb] voice that is like picking at her [Ab] and judging her if she [Eb] it doesn't have to be like she over a for [Eb] a ton of like, if you eat anything, it's [Ab] like, she told me [Eb] she would have like a burrito [Ab] or something for dinner.
And then she would have this internal voice just saying, [Ab] like, [Eb] okay, like, to compensate [Ab] for like you being such a horrible person eating that you need to [Abm] not eat for three days.
And it's [Gb] not she told me like, it [Ab] wasn't it's not like her
[Fm] conscience telling her that it's like literally [Fm] an [Gb] internal voice that talks to her.
[Ab] And, you know, makes [Bbm] it really hard for her to [Cm] kind of get over these [Gb] things she has [Bbm] like body [Db] dysmorphia.
And, you know, because [Ab] I've known her for a while and I [Gb] would see [Bbm] big fluctuations in [Ab] her weight and she's and she's a beautiful person [Db] to her core.
[Ebm] But it was just, yeah, it's really hard [Db] to watch her go through that.
I mean, even series where like [Bbm] series of like [Db] her telling me like her, [Ab] she was having like heart palpitations and like, I know she had to [Ebm] go to like a rehab for eating disorders and doctors [Db] were telling her like, your heart is like literally [Bbm] going to give out if you don't provide it enough like nutrients and [D] eat a normal [Ab] diet.
And she was there was still times where I would [Fm] see her [F] unfortunately, like backpedal, they kind of fall [Abm] back into older habits.
[D] And so I think I wanted to try writing this song [Bb] as, you know, kind of a telling a first story.
But again, you know, [Gb] just something we hadn't really touched base on.
[Ab] And I don't [Fm] think it's really talked about very often, at least like [Gb] in this scene of genre.
And [Ab] I was hoping, again, this [Bbm] song could be kind of like [F] a comforting piece [Gb] of music for people to listen to if [Bbm] they suffer from
