Okay, so we've analyzed the harmony to the bucket song.
We've come up with our winner notes.
Now we're going to take those winner notes that we like on each of the chords and try to group them into
collections of notes.
Let's start with the first.
The first chord was an Eb9 and we had we decided we liked
basically the six tones
[Eb]
here like [C] one two three four [Db] five [Eb] six those and
The eighth position is probably the easiest place to play that you can get a full two octave [F] scale
[Bbm]
[Eb] right there in that position so
You may notice that there's a familiar scale that you that you guys know
[F] [C] Really, [F] [Gm] [Eb] it's nothing so that's an E flat pentatonic major scale
[Bbm] if you just add the D flat there [Eb] and
that D flat there
[Bbm]
[Eb] [Db] [Gm] [F] you get the six note scale and
That's that's our harmonic world.
Those are the notes we like the best we also
Thought we could use that a natural
[G] [A] if
[C] [Bbm] [Bb] [G]
[Eb] we wanted [A] to sort [Eb] of imply that chord and and do the [Bb] jazzier sort of sounding thing, so
That would be a seven note scale now that may be familiar to some of you if you start that seven note scale
on a B flat
[C] [Eb]
[Bb] You it's the same notes as a B flat minor
A lot melodic minor [Eb] scale [Bb] if you start on an E flat
[Db] [Eb] It's I think what is it called an E and E flat?
Lydian
Flat seven scale or something like that, but again, I'm not worried about what we call it
I'm I'm after following what my ear tells me are the are the juicy sounding notes the good notes so
now with the D flat [F] chord
We came up with a seven note collection our ear told us was pretty good [Eb] all the way
[Bb] [B] [Db] And that's the same scale if it's an a flat minor [B] melodic minor scale
[Bbm] But [Ab]
we're starting it on a [Bb] D flat [E] [F] so [Gm]
[Em] [A] [B] [Eb]
[Bbm] everything you can reach in that position
[G] You [Db]
can hear that sound and it really [G] does sound like that chord or this chord
[F] All right, so we have those seven now seven notes is a lot of notes
So it's possible that we can take the notes that we like the winners against each of those chords and create smaller
Collections of notes which might be easier to manage easier to see easier to hear maybe and easier to grab for [Eb] instance
[F] [Bb] In this in this inside the six or seven notes that we liked on the E flat.
There's certainly an easy one
[Eb] an E flat triad
There's also a B flat [Bbm] minor triad [Eb] [Bbm] right there.
[F] So [G] we also could find a
G-diminished chord now [Bbm] those
[Bb] There's another triad there.
There's a
We can find a G minor 7 flat [G] 5 chord like that's right there
[Gm] So if if those are things that you know, those are useful smaller collections We
There's a couple that I like down here
[Db] There are four notes there
[Gm] [Db]
which
[Bbm] You can play in each of these three positions
We're gonna get into that later when we talk about symmetrical scales, but those are juicy notes on the flat like
They all sound that that's a collection.
That's easier to grab
That really does
It's a lot of our best sounding notes.
So look for those and see if you can find smaller.
There are many more in there
And see if you can find effective like smaller combinations to work with.
It's also it's just a lot more manageable
Let's listen to some of those now against the track
[Bb]
[E] [Dm] [Bb] [Eb] [Bbm] That's the E [Eb] flat triad [Db] D flat
[Am] How [Eb]
about the B flat minor?
[Bbm] That's
[Ebm] [Abm] [Am] [Eb] the [Db] A flat minor the corresponding minor against the [Eb] flat chord
[G] [Db] [G] [Abm] [Eb]
[Db] [Eb] [Bbm] [Eb]
[Bbm] [Abm]
[Eb] [Bbm] You get the idea
[Eb]
[Db] [G]
[Abm] [Ab] [Bbm] [Eb] [G] All right, then so we have our collections of tones that we like on each of these chord changes
Now it's time to see if we can start making some music with them
