Hey guys, it's Matt here with Acoustic Selection and I want to teach the song Forever Rain by Hillsong
I've got the lyrics and the song broken down into three parts your verse your chorus and your bridge
What I'm going to do too is this is a great song for beginners
Because the chord formation is the same on every single chord whenever you play the [C] C
or [G] the G [Am] or the A minor or the F
[C] You're playing that lead note and then every other note
So C is [Eb] I have all the C's marked to make it easier to locate
But if you if you don't have a mark find the two [C] keys one of the left is the C
So a C chord is every other note
that's a C [G] a G is every other note start with the G [Am] a
A minor is every other note start with A and an F [F] is every other note start with F
[C] What you want to do is start out if you're just beginning with piano start out just on in your right hand
Just on the chorus, for example
[G]
[Am]
[G] [F]
[Am] [G]
[F] [Am]
[G] So [C] just do with your right hand I played it too low you want to play it over here
But anyway as you get more comfortable add your left hand and all you're going to do with your left hand
Is play the two root notes so on a C.
You're playing two C's an octave apart right there
[G]
[Am] [F]
So [C] what you're going to play your your note with your right hand your chord [G] C G [F] a minor F
[C] The two root notes [G] so C G and again they the spacing stays the same
[Bb] That's what makes this song so great.
The [C] chords are all spaced the same [G] C G [Am] a
[F] minor and F
So if you can learn [C] just lock your fingers in a certain way C
[G] [A] again, you'll hit the [F] notes [C] [G] [A] [F] [C]
[G] and
[F] [C] Once you put them all together, it should sound something like this and I'm going to play through the verse chorus and the bridge
First I'm going to show you one more thing
[G] If you see a chord ever like this right here with the say G slash B
If you're a beginner, you might want to just play the G
Right there if you're more if you feel like you've got that down and you're more advanced
What this is saying with your right hand your chord [C] hand you play this first note a G
With your left hand you would play the B.
So for example, it would go
And [G] the left hand B here right hand G
Love love on display for all to see
[C] Darkness closes in
[G]
[C] They'll go to the course and again on this part right hand G left hand C
I'm running to your [G] arms
[Cm] [Am] The riches of your [G] love will always [F] be
Nothing compares to [G] your [F] embrace
When [G] [F] you see a chord like this in parentheses
It's referring to if you're going to play the chorus and go to the next verse or [Bm] wrap it back around
So for the example on this course if you were going to [Am] wrap it back to the chorus
Say the end of the song you'd go
[G] [C]
[G] [Am]
[G]
[Dm] [F] [G]
[F] [G]
[Dm] [F] Just finishing up on us to the F the bridge same thing a minor
[Am]
I will [F] see no other name [C] Jesus [G] Jesus
[Am] My heart will [F] see
No other name [C] Jesus
[G] Jesus
[F] The F if you want to go back to course
And [C] oh, I'm running to your [G] arms
I'm running to [C] your [Am] arms
The riches of your [G] love will always [F] be
Nothing compares [G] to your [Dm] [F] embrace
[G] So [F]
this is a great song for beginners [C] again because your formation of the chord stays the same for your C
[G] Your G [Am] your a minor and your F.
It's just every other note start out with your [C] right hand
Then just maybe practice your left hand
[A] [G] [Bm]
[A] [G]
[F] [A] [G]
[F] [A]
[F] If you have any questions
Just shoot me a message.
I reply to everybody that writes me and I'm anxious to help
I'm excited to teach piano lessons, and I don't worry.
I will keep doing guitar lessons as well
So be on the lookout for those too.
