I hear sleigh bells ring,
[Cm] but I haven't heard a word from you and you.
[C]
[G] [C] I do a Christmas playlist every year.
Different genres, either [F] jazz or swing or modern rock.
But [Cm] this last one, it was country, I [Fm] think, which led her, my wife, Malia, [E] to say,
[B] you should do a Christmas [E] album.
I'm dreaming
[F#m] of a white [B] Christmas,
[F#m] just like [B] the ones I used to [E] know.
Before this became a Christmas album, there was still an intention of doing [A] a straight,
normal [Am] studio album, with no deadline.
We were [E] working on something that [C#m] had no [F#m] real shape.
We'd just [B] collate material until we had [C#] enough to put out an album.
And [E] then it started to [F#m] morph into the Christmas thing.
I started just scouring the internet and [B] iTunes and everything [C#] for [E] specific Christmas songs.
And in the process of doing that, I actually combed through [A] Christmas [F] compilations.
And there would be different things, [E] including Bing Crosby and Frank [F#m] Sinatra.
You'd also [C] have Slade, do you know what I mean?
Or it would just [E] be from one end to [G] the other.
I'd be home for the [C] holidays, thinking I'd [Em] stay away.
[D] During the process of combing to [G] find songs, I found that [C] Anthony Hamilton had done a Christmas [Em] album.
I looked at Anthony's album and just [D] thought, well, there's two [C] songs here for sure that [G] anyone could do
because they're such great songs in [Em] themselves.
So we could do any old [D] arrangement of these songs and they'd still sound great.
[C] The point was, it wasn't that.
You still had to come back [A] to his [D] version for the inspiration
and [A] try to, to a certain [F] extent, imitate it to make it as good.
[F#m] Have yourself [Bm] a merry [E] little Christmas
And the first thing [A] I think we did was have yourself a merry little Christmas.
We have a friend called Walt Richmond.
He's a great musician, great arranger, great piano [F#m] player.
And I asked [B] him if he could work out a part for Have Yourself a Merry Little [C] Christmas
that would be in [F#] a different kind of mode, more of a [B] sort [E] of pub swing, kind of funky kind of [A] thing.
And he sent me [F#] that, a track.
First we have to work [Bm] out what's the best key to sing [E] it in.
We went through all of that.
And so we [Am] really, I think, I remember we started playing [D] with that.
[Gm] And I think at that point [A#] it was starting to become [F]
a reality.
[E] [A]
[Dm] I wanted a house [Gm] track.
I was [Dm] inspired by Avicii.
It's terrible that he would die so young.
And that [G] makes me worried about [F] the current generation of musicians.
They get, you know, they're going to get swept [Dm] away with different substances or lifestyles and everything
with no real guidance.
And I thought, well, you know, it'd be nice to have something to, you know, pay respect to his talent.
[F]
[Dm] I [Gm] remember Dylan did the artwork for music from Big [A] Pink.
[E] And he painted [A] the cover.
And I thought, this is such great art.
And, you know, we know now that Dylan is a fantastic artist, but [F#] as much as he is,
he's a great painter and sculptor.
And I [D] was inspired by that to do this.
And I did [E] it on a piece of hotel [A] stationery.
[F#] Well, this has also taken a lifetime of Christmas experiences, the [E] value of Christmas, Christmas music.
[F#m] I'm [F#] living in a dream world, [B] and dying [E] a little more [A] each day.
[F#m] [D] Christmas for me [E] is [A] snow, a roaring fire, a [C#] few chestnuts knocking about, and a huge [E] turkey.
My wife is an incredible cook, so she [E] will lay on the best Christmas [A] lunch and a [D] perfect treat.
I mean, you know, all the classic [E] things.
Stray [Em] bells out in the atmosphere, [A] keeping spirit [D] alive.
[E] So we've done the album, and now I think, well, I may not even need to make a playlist [D] this coming year.
We've got [E] our Christmas entertainment.
[G] Yeah, again, the thing [A] is, the way I like to make [D] all of our music, we do [E] it for ourselves, I do it for me.
And [Em] if I'm satisfied with what we've done, [Bm] [D] I don't really, [C] I mean, maybe this is [G] not the right thing to say,
but I [Bm] don't care if anybody else likes it.
[D] If they do, that's [A] icing on the cake.
But [C] for me, [G] I've done something I'm [Bm] really proud of, and this album is like that, this I really believe in.
Feels just [E] like Christmas, [D] baby's love is in the air, [A] everybody's [D] singing, oh, just [E] like Christmas.
Feel the [D] bells, they're screaming, [A] everybody's singing [D] along.
[E] Everything, [Em] the kids, everyone will see, [A] from the toys and
[Cm] but I haven't heard a word from you and you.
[C]
