[G]
[C#] What did she say to him?
I think she wanted to try a solitary method.

[E] That was [A] fantastic.
It's such a great band.
It's just fun to get [A] together with musicians and [E] come together on a song.
And [B] Carmelita is one of those songs that I've known the chorus to forever.
But I've never sung the verses.
And it was just great.
It was great singing [E] with James.
I originally thought, well let's do
I Shall Be Released.
And I thought, no,
that's been done in a hundred finales.
It's been done here.
So I thought, what other songs have I been thinking about lately?
Well, two of Warren Zivon's,
Vera Cruz and Carmelita.
Well, Vera Cruz is kind of hard to get your head around.
Carmelita is not.
It's just about [G] pain.
It lifts you out of the pain.
And so I went with that [D] and everybody seemed to like it.
[E]
[A] One thing I [D] like about
E-Town is that
there is this real sense of aliveness and improvisation.
Like you can be playing a song like Carmelita that we only played three times
[A] and look over [Em] and Nick's taking an awesome break.
And it's just like, yeah.
[A] It's different each time.
[E] And that makes it really live.
I think that's fun [D] for people.
[G] [D] We're going to do a song that
James helped us choose during our rehearsal earlier.
[A] Thinking about a [D] kind of a wistful,
slightly bleak Warren Zivon tune that I think is going to be a sing-along.
It's going to be great.
It's all those things.
I [A] want to thank all our guests.
Thanks to Martha Scanlon and John Neufeld for coming out
to play some songs.
Montana, Portland.
Thanks to our award winners, Terry Sapp and Carrie Morford.
Bringing books to kids in need in
their town near Jacksonville, Florida.
Thanks to Helen
and the hardworking E-Towns.
Thanks to James McMurtry.
Thanks to all of you for joining us.
I'm Nick Forster.
And I hope you can be with us next week right here in E-Town.
I got mariachi static on my radio
The tubes that glow in the [A] dark
You're there with him and Anderson
And I'm here in Echo [D] Park
[G] Carmelina,
hold me tighter, [D] I think I'm sinking [G] down
[D] And I'm all strung out [A] on heroin
On the outskirts [D] of town
Well I'm a stint in Fence Telecom
With my poor old [A] hando's
County won't give me no more
Methadone, cut off my
[D] willow fair chains.
[G] Carmelina,
hold me tighter, [D] I think
I'm sinking [G] down
And [D] I'm all strung out [A] on heroin
On the outskirts [D] of town

[D] [E]
[A] [D]
Well I pawned my Smith & Wesson
And I went to meet my [A] man
He hangs out down on Alvarado Street
By the [E] Pioneer Chicken [D] Stand
[G] Carmelina,
hold me tighter, [D] I think
I'm sinking [G] down
And [D] I'm all strung out [A] on heroin
On the outskirts [D] of town
[G] Carmelina, hold me tighter,
[D] I think I'm sinking down
[G] [D] And I'm all strung out
[A] on heroin
[A] On the outskirts [D] of town
[D] [G] [D]
Thank you all.
[N] You're wonderful people.
