EXPENSIVE GUITAR or EXPENSIVE AMP - Which One Should You Buy First? chords

Hey guys, welcome back to the channel.
I hope you guys are having a great day today.
So here's the scenario
You've got yourself a starter guitar and a [A] practice amp and you've saved up some money for your next big gear purchase
But what should you spend your money on?
Should you keep your entry-level guitar and buy a really expensive tube amp or should you keep your practice amp and spend your money on?
A [C] really expensive instrument.
So that's what we're gonna look at today
So we're gonna do a blind test to see if you guys can hear the difference
Between a really expensive guitar played on a very poor amp [A] or a very poor guitar played on an excellent [A#] amp
So it should be interesting.
All right, so let's look [G#] at our first rig
We're gonna pair [B] this expensive guitar with a small [A] practice amp.
Now.
This is a Fender select Stratocaster
It's got a nitro lacquer finish [G] over a beautiful flame maple top
specially voiced pickups for [F#m] this model
[Fm] Yeah, contoured heel joint locking tuners basically the best of the best when it comes to Stratocasters
They made this model for I think maybe three or four years and it was basically a small [F] run of custom shop quality strats
So really great guitar.
Let's see what this is paired up with.
Alright, so this is the Fender frontman 15
Don't try to use [N] the reverb.
It sounds really terrible.
Don't even think about using the drive channel
It sounds like you're putting a phone book through a table saw just unusable really really crappy, but the clean sound sounds pretty good
It's got an 8 inch speaker and I guess
15 watts maybe so we'll plug the the Fender select into this guy and
See what kind of tones we can get for a second rig
We're gonna be using an affordable guitar with an expensive tube amp.
So what we have here is the Squire standard Strat
It's a surprisingly nice guitar, especially for the money, but it's got a four-piece laminated body
You can clearly see the laminations so no hiding that one very basic pickups, but it's got a five-way switch and the volume tone tone
Just like a regular Stratocaster, so we'll pair this one up with a really nice tube amp
So we're gonna take the Squire and pair it with this Mesa boogie blue angel
If you've been hanging around the channel, you've probably heard this this amp many times on various recordings
So yeah, this one specializes in just clean tones.
It's got a really cool selector so you can go between like Fender tubes
Marshall tubes and both together
But yeah, basically specializes in just giving you a really nice clean fundamental tone
Now that you guys have seen the two rigs, let's do the blind test and see if you guys can tell which is which
[A] [F#m]
[G#] [E]
[F#] [F#m]
[A] [C#] [C#m]
[F#] [A]
[F#m]
[G] [G#] [E]
[F#] [F#m]
[C#m]
[B] [A]
So here are the results
Guitar one [A#] was the select Stratocaster with the practice amp and guitar two was the Squire with the Mesa boogie
[A]
[E]
[A]
[E]
[A]
[E]
[G] [E] [A]
[E] [C]
In this test guitar one was the Squire with the Mesa boogie and guitar two was the select Stratocaster [B] with the frontman
Now when you're playing on the instruments, it's a totally different experience than just listening to some recordings on YouTube
When you're playing on that select Strat, it's just a beautiful experience that thing the flame maple neck the flame top
The special pickups everything just plays as it should it makes playing easier
It's just such a great and easy guitar to play on
The Squire is nice guitar to play on too
But it is worlds apart in terms of the experience
now when you take that and you're in your practice room and whether it's in your bedroom or [F] your studio or whatever and you plug
That beautiful Strat into a small practice [E] amp
It really does suck, you know, it [C] takes the enjoyment out of it
But if you're just to play it
Acoustically having a really nice expensive guitar is such a joy to play on and I think it does make
Practicing easier when you have such a great instrument
Now on the flip side when you take that relatively modest Squire and you plug it into a tube amp in your bedroom or in your
Studio and you crank it up
That's a whole nother great experience because you [B] start the guitar comes alive when you plug it into a really nice tube amp
You start to hear the overtones and the breakup and and you feel the sound
That's a totally different [E] experience than [B] just you know, quietly playing a really nice guitar through a practice amp
So both experiences [F] are great in their own way
If I was forced to make the choice, [G#] I think I would recommend getting a good [A#] tube amp and keeping a [G#] modest guitar
I think that gives you the best tone right away in a lot of situations for recording for taking out to play
With [C] garage bands or just gigging with your friends or jamming whatever kind of thing you're doing having a nice tube amp really
Creates a beautiful sound but I would never fault anybody for saving their pennies up and you know buying one of their dream guitars
Thanks so much for watching you guys.
I hope you enjoyed this video.
It was really interesting to put together
I hope you found it helpful
