[Am]
Hi, this [Gb] [E]
[Am] [Dm]
is Joe Bonamassa [Am] here [A] in Southern California at Fender's secret [D] bunker and we're
launching the brand [A] new 59 [D] twin amp [A] JB edition.
[B] The king is back.
We're going to spend some time today going through various instruments, showing [F] you [C] what
the amp can do in the sense that [Gm] it is one of the greatest [Dm] amplifiers ever built, if
not the greatest amplifier [A] ever built, and it [B] [Am] showcases your instrument to its fullest
every [Bb] time you plug it in.
[Am]
[C] [A]
Okay, [Ab] let's check it [A] out.
[D]
[E] As a guitar geek and a [Dm] collector, this is like [A] a big, big thing [E] because, [A] you know, [Bm] as
players we've all known about things and how [Bb] good they are and the [N] fact that it's,
[Gb] you
[A] know, it's an actual Fender product.
[C]
[A]
The [C] speakers in [Fm] this amp are [Bb] [Eb] JB -85s.
[G] Celestion was nice enough to do [F] a signature speaker to go [Db] along with the amp and [Eb] we had
kind of had [F] a relationship [Eb] for, you know, many years buying speakers for the twins and
they knew that I was really in love with the classic 80s so they came up [Ab] with a really
nice, both cosmetically and sonically, [Ebm] a really nice version of an 85 watt ceramic
speaker that's exclusive [Cm] to this amp and they sound fantastic, you know, right out of the [Bbm] box.
As far as [Eb] tubes in these amplifiers, [Gbm] we're using [G] the Tung Sol [Bb] 6L6s.
I find them to be very reliable.
I like new tubes in both the old amps and in the new [Eb] amps.
I think they harmonically sound great.
We also used a 12AX7 [Ab] in the first position which kind of gives it a little kick, you
know, gives it a little [Gm] more gain.
What [E] more can you ask for in a reissue amplifier than for it to sound identical to an old one?
And that's been the beauty of this process over the year and a half is Fender's always
reverted back to the old one, really recapturing the sound of the original twins and what more
can you say?
What more can you ask for?
I mean, they did it.
They've achieved the impossible.
They've recreated the monster.
We're about to A-B an original 59 high-powered tweed twin with the new JB Edition reissue
high-powered tweed twin and [D] like I said, [B] they're very dynamic amplifiers so we're going to
play two of the same kind of.
[E]
[D] [Eb]
[B] [Dm]
[Eb] [G]
[Dm] [Eb] [Gm] [Dm]
[Eb]
[C] [Em] [Ab]
[Eb]
[Em] And here is the brand new JB twin, same situation.
[Bb] [G]
[D]
[Db] [G]
[Dm]
[G]
[Db] [Bb]
[G]
[C] [Dm]
[C] [G] [Dm] [G] As you can see, both amplifiers are mic'd exactly the same way and [E] sonically sound to
my ears identical.
[A]
[E]
The [D] aging on this is important [Dbm] because [G] you want it [A] to kind of like, [E] you want it to be inviting.
You don't want it to be this shiny thing in the corner.
You want this to be this like warm, welcoming, [A] legit high-powered twin.
I mean, it doesn't look much different than that.
I think the [Ab] importance of doing a hand [Dm]-wired amplifier is [E] the hand-wired is [B] to me where
the personality of the amp comes in.
It's like [A] each one could be a little [E] bit different.
Each component is a little bit different.
[D] [E] You can't make caps the same way.
You know, it's like, it's just [C] even in [D] the 50s they didn't make caps.
[E] So that's why you get [Bm] these like varying, you know, [Em] degrees [A] of sound.
Very [F] competitively priced [B] amp for being hand-wired [E] and [Bbm] again, [E] it's Fender.
You know, it's Fender.
[B] And I can't stress [Bb] that enough.
Other amps fail in the sense [A] they don't have the headroom.
[Em] They don't have [Bm] the ability [E] to go everywhere.
They have specific areas of strength.
This [A] can [Dbm] do that.
[Bm] [A] [D]
[N] [E] [A] If [Em] you buy something, you [D] hope it's ready to go.
You know, you just, you know, why do you have to immediately modify [C] things, you know?
[E] [A] So it's [Eb] a wonderful [A] sound and it's one of [E] the highest [D] honors I've [Gbm] ever been bestowed.
[E] That's what it's about.
It's about [A] paying tribute to history and the [Bm] king of [A] amplifiers.
People will [Gbm] argue about what's the best amplifier ever [E] produced.
I [D] would stand in front of [B] a grand jury and [Gb] plead my case if this is the best [Em] ever produced.
[Bb] [E] Changed my life.
[Bm] [Bb]
[D] [C] [G]
[C] [D]
It's the little nerdy things that I like and I think you guys are going to [Gb] like as well.
[C] You know, like the serial number font on the [D] amp is the same stamp as they used back in the 50s.
You know, it's the little things.
Those are the kind of things I look for in amps.
It's [Cm] one thing to [C] just make an amp roar.
[D] It's another thing to take the time and the pride and [Gm] go above [B] and beyond the [C] call of
[Eb] duty because it's like when you look down and you're just sitting there geeking [Ebm] out
with it, it's kind [D] of cool to see the same serial number font as they use on all of your 50s amps.
[A] [Db] [Bb] [G]
[E] [D] Hey, if you think this is cool and want to check one out, you can purchase one exclusively
[E] through [Am] jbonomasa.com.
Can't wait to see them out in the [C] wild.
