I'd like to show you a basic finger picking pattern.
Correction, I'd like to show you THE basic finger picking pattern, the granddaddy of
the bomb, one that if you master will allow you to play hundreds of great [Em] songs and will
change your life.
And I mean that, it really changed my life, and it's simple to learn.
So how do we play this finger picking pattern?
Let me break it down into two parts, [E] the first part and the second part.
By the way, you can find the tabs for this on my website, borderlinemadness.com.
Let's see now, so again, the first [F#] part, right now I have my capo on the fourth fret, just
because that's where I feel comfortable singing the boxer.
And I'm playing the C chord at [C] the moment.
So, play the fifth string with [E] your thumb, then together the second and fourth strings
with your middle finger and your thumb, and with the index finger play the third string.
Practice that for a while.
Go on to the second part, playing the fifth string with your thumb, second string with
your middle finger, [G#] fourth string with your thumb, [Fm] and [E] the third string with your index finger.
Remember the first part, and the second part.
Put them together.
After a while, try some other chords.
Here's an F.
[A] [B] Here's a G.
Start [E]
to alternate the bass.
And try it out on a song.
I am [B] just a poor [E] boy, [C#m] though my story's seldom told.
[B] I've squandered my resistance for a pocket full of bumbles [E] such are promises.
[B] [C#m] All the lies he tells, [B] still the man [A] hears what he wants to hear and [E] disregards the rest.
[B] La la la, [G#m] la la [E] la la la la.
[Am]
