[N] Hi, I'm Irene.
I'm part of La Chic Duo and today I'll be speaking about
arpeggio patterns for the right hand commonly known as finger style technique.
Now arpeggio patterns are used to
decorate a type of harmony.
Say you have an A minor chord and [Am] you're strumming it
with an arpeggio pattern, the fingers plucking the notes one by one.
Now to better demonstrate this technique
we're going to use the classical guitar method of right hand [E] fingering.
So we're going to assign the thumb as P, the index finger as I,
middle finger as M, and ring finger as A.
So that's P, I, M, A.
Now we're going to go through different patterns in
different meters.
For the pattern of two you're going to be using P, M
repeatedly.
[A] That's P, M.
[Em]
Moving on to the pattern of three and we're going to use P, I, [A] M.
Now [E] [Em]
[A] [Em] a pattern of four, that's P, I, M, A.
[A] [E] [Em]
[F#] [E] [Am]
Let's [B] move on to a pattern of six.
[A] That's [Em] P, I, M, A, M, I.
[Am] [C]
[Em] [F] [Am]
And then the [E] last pattern, pattern of eight, and that's [A] P, [Em] I, M, I, A, I, M, [A] I.
[Em]
[D#] [Em]
[G] [Em]
Now I'm just going to do this short example to demonstrate how you can switch [F] from the different patterns.
I'm going to take an [Am] A minor chord [E] and
I'm going to begin in two and then move on in into the pattern of eight.
So this is in two.
[Am]
Now in three.
Now in four.
Now in five.
In six.
And now in eight.
[Em] I'll be finishing the lesson by going through the first phrase of Blackbird.
This song uses two different type of arpeggio patterns.
The first one is P and M played
simultaneously followed by I.
So that's P, M, I.
The second arpeggio pattern is in the pattern of eight and that's P, M, I, M, P, I, M.
[Dm] So if you were [Em] to play the first couple of measures you would go P, M, [Am] I, P, M, [G] I, P, M, I.
So the whole song would sound like this.
[Am] [G] [Am] [G]
[C] [G] [Em]
[Cm] [G] [C] [Cm]
[G] [A] [Am] [G]
[E] [C#] [G#] [C#]
[G#] [C#]
