Hi there, my name is Ben Woods and I want to show you the basic building blocks to flamenco guitar technique
There's about six or seven techniques
Just for flamenco guitar and I just want to illustrate those to you
The first one is a five stroke tremolo in in classical.
We have a four stroke
Ring middle index, that's four
But in flamenco we have five strokes so it goes thumb index ring middle index
index ring middle index There's [G] picado
Which is just your two fingers alternating?
so
[E] It's [A] [E]
hard to build speed with this
But if you work at it and keep your economy in motion as little as possible you can get a lot faster with it
We have arpeggios you have ascending arpeggio
And a descending arpeggio
Or you can put them together
So
Then what do we have we have a gold pay go plays are very specific to flamenco [Gb] guitar [E] technique
It's where we hit the body of the guitar with the end of our
Either middle finger or ring finger and a little bit of nail
[Ab] Or we we use it sometimes when we do the alzapua which I'll get to
[Bm] [Dm] [E]
[D] [E]
You
Or we use it
With the index finger
Can't hurt so be careful
[A] All right, I'll zip or what I was just doing.
What is that?
It's a triplet with the thumbnail only it basically is [D] just
So
[Bb] you got these [B] triplets?
[E] One two three one two three, but you can make them quadruplets by adding in a [Dm] legato
[G] [Abm] [Dm] [E] [D]
[E]
You
Little series of quadruplets now, what is legato legato is a pull-off [B] hammer [C] [B]-on
[C] [Bm]
[C] [Bm]
They're [E] all go under the
Umbrella of legato so you put all those together and you have all the building blocks except for one of the most
The most characteristic one of all flamenco guitar playing is the rasqueado or Raquel and that is the
Sound that you might hear
There's so many different ways to do this.
So I'm just gonna show you a few
There's the Raquel a Beniko which means fan because we twist our wrist and it looks like a fan
it's up with the thumb down with the fingers down with a and over again Quadruplets
And you start with the thumb and you end with the thumb then we have these these are really nice to use the
forefinger fan stroke
Or or I do mine backwards.
I start with the index
There's really no right or wrong way to do it there's triplets you can use your ring finger and index finger
[G] Or you [E] can use these two
[G] Or
There's a myriad of other ways to do it.
So once you put all those together
You can really you really have all the building blocks necessary
[F] [Ab]
[E] [Em] [G]
[B] [G] [F] [E]
[G] [Am] [E] [F]
[Em] [B] [Dm]
[E] [G]
[Gb] [F] [D] [G]
