Hi there, my name is Ben Woods and I want to show you the basic building blocks to flamenco guitar technique
There's about six or seven techniques
Just for flamenco guitar and I just want to illustrate those to you
The first one is a five stroke tremolo in in classical.
We have a four stroke
_ Ring _ _ middle index, that's four
_ _ _ But in flamenco we have five strokes so it goes thumb index ring middle index
index ring middle index _ There's _ _ _ [G] _ picado _
Which is just your two fingers alternating? _
so
[E] _ _ _ It's [A] _ [E] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ hard to build speed with this
But if you work at it and keep your economy in motion as little as possible you can get a lot faster with it
We have arpeggios you have ascending arpeggio
_ And a descending arpeggio _
Or you can put them together _ _ _ _ _
_ So
Then what do we have we have a gold pay go plays are very specific to flamenco [Gb] guitar [E] technique _ _
_ It's where we hit the body of the guitar with the end of our
Either middle finger or ring finger and a little bit of nail _ _
_ [Ab] Or we we use it sometimes when we do the alzapua which I'll get to
[Bm] _ _ [Dm] _ _ [E] _
_ [D] _ _ _ _ [E] _ _
You
Or we use it _ _ _ _
With the index finger
_ Can't hurt so be careful _
[A] All right, I'll zip or what I was just doing.
What is that?
It's a triplet with the thumbnail only it basically is [D] just
_ So _ _ _ _
[Bb] you got these [B] triplets? _ _ _ _ _
[E] _ One two three one two three, but you can make them quadruplets by adding in a [Dm] legato _ _ _
_ [G] _ [Abm] _ [Dm] _ [E] _ _ [D] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [E] _ _
You
Little series of quadruplets now, what is legato legato is a pull-off [B] hammer [C] [B]-on
_ [C] _ _ [Bm] _
_ [C] _ _ [Bm] _ _ _ _ _
They're _ _ _ [E] all go under the
Umbrella of legato so you put all those together and you have all the building blocks except for one of the most _
The most characteristic one of all flamenco guitar playing is the rasqueado or Raquel and that is the
_ Sound that you might hear
_ There's so many different ways to do this.
So I'm just gonna show you a few
There's the Raquel a Beniko which means fan because we twist our wrist and it looks like a fan
it's up with the thumb down with the fingers down with a _ and _ over again _ _ _ Quadruplets _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ And you start with the thumb and you end with the thumb then we have these these are really nice to use the
forefinger fan stroke _
_ Or _ _ or I do mine backwards.
I start with the index _ _ _ _ _
_ _ There's really no right or wrong way to do it there's triplets you can use your ring finger and index finger
_ _ _ [G] Or you [E] can use these two _
_ _ [G] _ Or
There's a myriad of other ways to do it.
So once you put all those together
You can really you really have all the building blocks necessary _ _
_ _ [F] _ _ _ [Ab] _ _ _
[E] _ _ _ _ [Em] _ _ _ [G] _
[B] _ _ [G] _ _ [F] _ [E] _ _ _
_ _ [G] _ [Am] _ [E] _ _ [F] _ _
_ [Em] _ _ _ [B] _ [Dm] _ _ _
_ _ [E] _ _ _ _ _ [G] _
[Gb] _ [F] _ [D] _ _ _ _ _ [G] _
_ _ _ _ _ [D] _ _ [E] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
