Now just the same as we can perform some chords with a very strong flamenco [Bb] flavor inside of [G] them
We can also do the same thing with [Ab] scales.
So as an [Ab] example, we can take just an [E] E chord and
Play an E major scale
[Gb]
[Abm] So [E]
it all sounds very [Abm] happy very consonant
[E]
but we can immediately turn that into [B] a more exotic and mysterious sound by using [Am] the
[Ab] harmonic minor instead
[B]
[E] [Ab]
[E] [Em] So you can hear the switch there.
So [Gb] from black to white
[E]
Major and harmonic minor
[B] [E]
[Eb] [G]
so in [A] the next
Close up.
I'm going [Ab] to show you how to [G] perform a harmonic [F] minor scale
It will [G] also learn some chords to go with it so that you can [Gb] start to improvise
Scale lines [Bb] and put them in with the chords and [Ab] this will allow you to start achieving a really
Strongly flavored Spanish guitar sound straight away.
So let's have a look at how to produce a
[Ab] harmonic minor scale
We're going to start off by doing on the sixth string 1 [E] 4 [Ab] So just the open [E] 6th string [F] [Ab] First fret and then the fourth fret then on the next string we have [A] 2 3 and [C] [Dbm] The same [D] on the fourth string [E] [F] [B] From there on the third string. We [Ab] just have 1 and then 2 [A] Then on the second string we have 1 3 and [G] [Ab] And finally 1 [C] 4 on the high E string [E]
Now once you [C] get good at that scale and [Bb] just practice it slowly going up and down up and down Your fingers will start to learn where [G] to land on the frets by themselves So you won't have to put so much [Gb] attention into [G] knowing kind of thinking [Ab] about each string Once you get to that stage and you feel [G] confident doing the scale [Bb] up and down The next step is to try and make up little melody lines and to combine them with the chords So when we [F] go to the wide shot now, I'll show you exactly [Dbm] what I mean [Db] [E] [A]
[Ab] [E]
[Em]
[A] [B]
[G]
[F]
[G] [E]
[C]
[A] [Gb]
[E]
[Db] Let's take a look at what I was doing [Bb] in that last section I was simply taking the harmonic [G] minor [Ab] scale, which we've already learned [E] and [Ab] [E]
I was mixing [G] that with four chords an A [A] minor a [G] G7 and [F] F [E] and an E [Bb] So for example, I [Am] started off by using a little section of the [Abm] scale just 3 2 on the fourth [Gb] string and 3 2 on the fifth string [B] [A] and That led me into an A minor [Am] Then I went 3 [Bb] 2 on the fifth string [G] and 4 1 on the sixth [B] string [E] Taking me into an E [A] Then I did some little line [Dbm] to go back to a minor and then I went into [C] G7 1 [Ab] 3 on the second [G] string The open first string and then [G] G7 Coming down into an F [F] and then [G] going down [C] into the [Ab] major chord [Gb] [E]
[A]
So in each case [Bb] you can see I'm just taking a little section of the scale [A] [E] [Am] Then I did some little line [Dbm] to go back to a minor [A] and then I went [Ab] into G7 [C] 1 3 on the second [G] string the open [E] first string [G]
Coming down into an F [F] [G] and then going down into the major chord. [E]
[A]
So in each case you can see [Bb] I'm just taking a little section of the scale and [E]
I'm leading into a chord [Db] So a little section chord little section chord and you can [Ab] practice that for hours and hours and get a really authentic Spanish sound [G] coming out of your guitar. The more you practice obviously the better you'll get at it [C] [Em] [C] [A]
[E] [C]
[A]
From watching the last two parts I [Ab] hope that you were able to see just [G] how easy it can be to get an Authentic Spanish guitar sounds without having to spend [Ab] years and years of practice learning next to impossible guitar [Bb] techniques for example, we were taking just ordinary chord [A] progressions and [G] [F] [E] Immediately [G] giving them a much stronger flamenco [A] flavor [G] [F]
[E] Just by making some simple changes to [C] the chord shapes And then [G] we also had the example of where we could learn as an alternative to a [Ab] basic major scale [E] You get a much [G] more mysterious and exotic [Ab] sound [E] [Ab]
[E] [F] [E]
Just by learning a different [G] Scale shape the harmonic minor and then also being able to mix those together [E] and so you immediately [C] get all of these different things that you can play [G] around with to [Ab] Start producing this style of music on your guitar [A] and it takes just a few hours to get going doing it Which is the real beauty of it. [Am] So I hope you've enjoyed the lessons and I look [Ab] forward to giving you a lot more [D] content very soon
We can also do the same thing with [Ab] scales.
So as an [Ab] example, we can take just an [E] E chord and
Play an E major scale

[Abm] So [E]

[A]
So in each case [Bb] you can see I'm just taking a little section of the scale [A] [E] [Am] Then I did some little line [Dbm] to go back to a minor [A] and then I went [Ab] into G7 [C] 1 3 on the second [G] string the open [E] first string [G]
