[N] Hi, welcome to Mike Herbert's Playfavourist.com and something a little bit different there
I think, a bit of Spanish play.
Very easy to play actually, it looks good, it sounds good and it doesn't take you too
long to learn.
[G] Let's get in tune first of all, it's in conventional tuning, standard tuning, so just follow my
tuning, [E] 6th string, 5th string, [A]
[D] 4th string, [G] 3rd, [B] 2nd and [E] 3rd.
[F] [E] [G] Ok I know some of you struggle with tuning but just practice, just keep at it, get some
pitch pipes or an electronic tuner and it just comes with practice, no problem.
[Am] So let's talk you through this piece, the chords you're going to need to know are A
minor and [E] E which is the same shape, [F] [Em] so [Am] mostly [E] we [Am] also use an F shape, we're not going to
use the full F, we're going to use this reduced version, this cut down version [F] and if you're
going to do the strumming [G] bit at the end you'd also need a G, other than that it's just a few picks.
So let's talk you slowly through it, start with an A minor, we do one pull down, [Am] one
rush down on the strings and then a pick on the first [Em] string,
[F] [Em] so it's open, 3rd, [F] 1st,
[Em] open, so [Am] strum, [Em] open, [Em] move to E and do [A] exactly the same and then do the same [E] run on the 2nd
string [C]
[E] and then the F [F] shape and [Am] then we [G] start this long run which [Am] starts on the 2nd string,
I'll do it slowly [B] for you, [C] [G] [C]
[Em] open [D] 1st [C] [B] [A] [G]
[F] [E] [D] and then [Am] move our E chord up one fret and [Em] then down
to it's normal [E] position, so the whole of [G] that sounds like [Am] this.
[E] [C] [F] [C]
[A] [F] [D] [Em] [F] [E]
[Ab] Then our picking piece, the picking section, we hold down the 1st fret on the 3rd string,
2nd fret 4th string and we're going to pick the notes in this order, the 4th, [E] 3rd, 2nd.
But in between each of those notes we're going to pick up on the 1st string, do that
twice and then we move down one fret [Am] and start our pick on the 3rd string, same pattern and
[E]
[A] [G] [F]
then back [E] to the beginning and
[Am] [E] [A] [Em] [F] [E]
[Am] [Em] [F]
then up to [Em] our E shape slid forward one fret, [F]
[E]
the whole
piece goes [Am] like this and [E] [Em]
[F] [Am] [Em] [F]
[B] [E]
[Am] [E] [A]
[Em] [F] [E] [Am]
[Em] [F] then up to [E] our E shape slid forward one fret, [F] [E]
[Am] [G] if you want to
try the strum I showed you at the beginning it goes like this, it's slightly advanced
but you never know, you might give it a try.
We're going to hold an E chord, a G chord, an F chord, an E chord [C] and then they move
[B] up E and then back down again.
[G] And the strum goes like this, it's down with the 1st [Am] finger, followed by the thumb and
then an upstroke with the 1st finger.
[G] So [Em] together that sounds like this, I'll do it [Am] slowly and then it just immediately repeats
the 3rd time we do it down, up.
So it's, we change chords to [G] a G, then [F] an F, [E] then an E, then slide the E and back again.
And we can do all [Gm] sorts of variations.
So we get that sort of flamenco strumming sound.
It looks very impressive but it does take some practice to get this [Am] bit right.
So down, G,
[G] [F] F.
[E] [F] [E]
We could almost be in Mexico, couldn't we?
OK, go and practice and if you need any help with it, pester me, email me, Mike at Playfavourites.com
I'm sure [D] that some of you will, many of you do, and I do enjoy getting your emails so
don't worry about [N] pestering me.
