[G] In this lesson I want to go over your first four chords.
If you're a beginner just starting out I highly highly highly recommend you learn these four chords this way and I'll show you why in a minute.
I'm going to show you four chords.
The G, the C, the E [Dm] minor, the D.
Now notice my fingers how little they move for those [G] chords.
I got the bottom two strings covered on the third fret with the ring finger and pinky finger.
Then I've got this first finger on the fifth string second fret, the middle finger top string third fret.
Watch how little movement I have with my fingers.
G, C, E minor, D.
This is so [D] vital for the beginners because it teaches you to play chords and to progress from chord to chord to chord on your starting songs without so much movement.
What happens particularly with kids a lot of times [Gm] people teach [C] G, [G] [D] C, [Em] D, E [G] minor, G, [D] [C] D.
You [G] can see how I [D] have to pick my fingers [Em] up each time.
While this is the true [G] name of the chord G [C] to [G] C [D] to D a beginner sees that and gets [G] frustrated.
When I started out I used to have the hardest time going from [C] G to C because my [G] fingers aren't trained to move where my brain is telling them to at this point.
That's why for the beginners I highly recommend there's your G just move your top two fingers down each string and there's your C.
So G down a string to C.
With your E minor you can play it one of two ways.
Still keeping your bottom two fingers locked press your fifth and fourth string and strum all your strings down or use your first two fingers and press the fifth and fourth string and strum all six.
Then with the D go to your third string second fret and play the bottom four strings.
So again G, C, E minor, D.
[D] As you get more advanced [G] also it's great playing the chords this way because you can lead into the chords with a hammer on.
With a G you would go C you're still hammering on the first finger.
With the E minor you can sometimes play it this way [Em] sometimes lift your pinky up.
You need a higher sound.
[G] With the D often I'll play it [D] with just these two.
To [Abm] start out again keep the bottom two fingers locked it makes it easier.
It gives you that stability allows you to change.
It'll get you working faster on the chord progression as opposed to [G] trying to figure out where your fingers need to be.
