Food Fighters are at Lollapalooza for the first time,
playing the final headlining set of the festival.
Guys, welcome to the Top 20.
Thank you very much.
So, you guys are having a pretty intense and crazy year.
Wasting Light debuted at number one.
You guys are touring and kicking ass, taking names,
and headlining 20 year anniversary of Lollapalooza.
How do you like it?
I didn't know it was the anniversary.
Well, there you go, learn something new every day.
How do you wrap your head around all that?
Did you go to the first one?
I did, I went three days.
I snuck in two of them.
Three days.
Three days was, yeah.
How do you feel about all the success?
I like it.
Have you bought any hot clothes?
I love being successful, I have to say.
It's pretty awesome being as successful as we are.
Not conflicted at all?
No.
No, just pure?
Not for one second.
Like are you guys having some issues
between each other now?
I mean, I understand some bands
don't wanna be huge and famous, but we do.
We'll take your leftovers.
So, we wanna be huge and famous.
I wanna be huge and famous.
So, the other really cool aspect about Lollapalooza
is these kinda secret shows that these big bands
like you guys choose to play.
You guys chose to play at the Metro.
Why do you think these shows are important
and really cool for the fans?
Well, we need to practice.
We just played our whole album in its entirety.
Cause that's like the best practice we've ever had
is just playing this record.
Cause it's just slow songs and fast songs
and kinda covers the gamut.
You're right, good answer.
Taylor's correct.
That is correct, Taylor.
Well, also, a festival show like that,
they give us two hours to play.
Which sometimes isn't enough.
We need more.
We need a little bit more.
So, here, they don't close until what?
Four in the morning?
Uh-oh.
Come on.
We got five hours.
What do you think?
You can do it, dude, you can do it!
You can do it!
Wasting Light debuts at number one
after 16 years that you guys are in a band.
Finally, were you guys like, finally we did this?
Or were you guys like, finally they frickin' got it?
Be honest.
We were, remember that place we were at?
We went out for lunch.
We were at a Chick-fil-A.
We were at a Chick-fil-A, so it felt pretty rad there.
We were like, yeah, I'm number one.
Chick-fil-A.
I'm crushed.
That's how you celebrate at Chick-fil-A?
We got down to Earth.
That's pretty rock and roll of you.
We just go to like Chick-fil-A.
Just saying, at a Chick-fil-A,
on the way back to the Learjet.
To be honest, I think the fact that it happened
16 years later is kinda the best part.
Because it's not that we ever expected it to happen before,
and it's not that we feel like, finally someone got it.
But it's just cool.
I like it when we show up to a festival
and we're like 20 years older
than most of the other people that are playing.
See, we're old.
We remember the good old days.
This is when the gray hair comes in handy.
Oh well, back in my day,
I used to travel to a bunch of different cities.
Kids from all over would come to see a show called Lollapalooza.
Bands, rap bands, grunge bands.
Yeah, it was a multicultural rock and roll band.
Techno and dance and dub.
You know, Fuse and Foo Fighters
actually did a promotion together
and we gave away a pair of tickets
to a really lucky fan to be at this show at the Metro.
What is like a small club show that you remember
that you were like freaking out excited to see?
Pick one.
Pick one, T.
A club show?
Yeah.
Well, you know, going back to the Jane's Addiction days,
talking about Lollapalooza.
Yeah, when I was in high school,
going to see them in kind of smaller venues.
I mean, they saved rock and roll for me when I was, you know.
I never got to see them in a small club.
When I was like 14 or 15 or whenever they came out
and they just saved it.
So seeing them back then was like seeing Led Zeppelin.
You saw Bad Brains in the club.
Back in the 80s, that was pretty great.
Nate, club gig?
The Accused were really good.
Really?
Club gigs in Seattle.
Yeah, like this kind of metal band from Seattle.
They were awesome.
Chris?
You know, I have one.
She already reprimanded Nate.
I don't want to get in trouble.
You know, when I was a kid,
I would wind up standing on the curb outside of most clubs
when big bands played because I could never get in.
So I listened to, I remember listening to Iggy Pop
from the parking lot.
That's pretty badass.
I saw Stray Cats at the Coconut Teaser.
That was pretty good.
What about you, Pat?
Runaways.
Runaways.
Nice.
Runaways.
So let's talk about your video for Walk,
which you used Michael Douglas' film,
Falling Down, as the inspiration.
And I'm kind of wondering why you used that particular video.
Like, do you have a lot of pent up hostility and aggression
do we need to like discuss here?
Tell me about your period.
I'm pretty fucking pissed.
I seem like a pissy person, don't I?
No, but I would like to know about your pissy side.
I have a pissy side.
Well, we, you know, a song like Walk,
it's the song, it's not, it's not like,
it's not really a lighthearted kind of funny song.
I don't think.
It wasn't, it wasn't meant to be funny.
Well, we tried to make it funny,
but I don't know if it worked or not.
There's funny moments and there's heart string moments
kind of, right?
I don't remember.
I haven't seen it in a while.
But like, why not?
Well, your wig in the golf scene is pretty fucking funny.
I love wigs.
Also when you run away, you running is funny.
I think it's funny when you run.
Yeah, I was running, skinny little chicken legs.
He's kind of pigeon toed.
So he kind of goes.
I like that scene.
I like the scene when you're running away
from the golf cart.
Yeah.
But the movie, as in Chris.
So the movie too, I should stop answering questions.
Yeah, sorry, I'm not focusing.
Well, it was a great movie.
It was a great movie.
It wasn't our idea.
It wasn't?
Oh, the treatments didn't even come from you.
No, it was the director.
It was like some other dude and you just went with it.
Dude, I just wanted some money and we paid him.
Well guys, I want to thank you very much for being here.
We don't have much time because we're not allowed,
but I think you're fantastic.
I got feathers.
Grow up, assholes.
We don't curse anymore here.
Are you done?
No, I'm not allowed.
I remember when she was this fine.
I mean, do you see the colors that way?
Okay, we're here in Chicago, Julia at Fuse.
Do you want to focus?
Right, quick, one word answers.
Heard you at Opera Chick?
Looking forward to rocking out [C] with you.
