[N]
[Bb] Yes, this is Keen [A] Dale.
[Bb] I'm going to break down Going Up Yonder in the key of C.
[C] I'm starting with a C6, C, E, G, A.
The melody.
That's the first part.
C6, C, E, G, A, [Em] D, E, D, E, D.
[Eb] Then my chord in the left hand [Bb] is F, A, Bb, D [Db] over F, A,
D.
[Bb]
When I resolve [C] the left hand, just [F] move the F to the [E] E and the right hand is [Eb] playing C
[Bbm] in the first inversion, [C]
E, G, C.
Again, [B] that transition.
[Bb] This is a suspended chord.
F, left hand, A, Bb, D over [F] F, A, [Dm] D.
[C] When I resolve the [D] left hand to [Bb] E and the [C] right
hand to C in the first [Bb] inversion,
[C] E, G, C.
[G] [Bb]
[Bbm] This is a passing chord.
The left hand is [Gb] E, Bb, [Bb]
[Eb] Eb.
[E] That's E, natural, [Eb] Bb, Eb over [Dbm] Ab, [Bbm] Db, F.
I resolve to
[C] the left [A] hand, E, A, D [Bb] over [C] G,
C, E.
Again, [Ebm] they come down together.
The left hand was the [Eb] Bb and the Eb in the left hand.
Bb and Eb.
E, Bb, Eb over [Db] Ab, Db, F.
[C] Now, what I did, I [Cm] went from the first degree, C, to the [Bb] fourth degree, which is F.
Again,
[Db] this is the first [C] degree, C.
[Bb] A passing chord [Eb]
to the fourth [C] degree.
This is a [D] Fmaj7 chord [G] with a 9.
[Am]
[G] [F]
Now, the [Bb] progression there was [E] 3, E, [D]
A, the sixth [A] degree, 3, 6, [Bb] 2 progression.
This is a D tritone, an E chord with a [D] tritone, D, and Ab.
[Bb] The bass note would be E.
This is a 7th of E, D, [Cm] and a sharp 9, G.
[Bb]
This [Gbm] is an A chord [F] with a sharp 9 and a sharp 5.
A sharp 9, sharp 5.
In our theory [Bb] books, you can study those books and understand [Db] more of the names of these
chords [D] and degrees.
The scale [Ebm] numbers are scale [Eb] degrees, which is the key to [Bbm] understanding [F] theory.
I'll say it again.
[Eb] The numbers of the scale degrees, [Db] the scale [Bb] tones, the [C] degrees, the number [Eb] system, is
the key to [Am] understanding degrees.
[G] This is 3 to [F] 6, 2.
[C]
[Dm] [Bbm] [Am]
[G]
[D] 3 to 6.
[F]
From there, we go into the 5.
[Fm] [E] This is [G] a G chord, G7.
[E] The left hand is [Fm] F and B over E, [Dbm] G sharp, [E] B.
What I did [Db] is I played the [F] notes a half step [E] above.
You can now [F] do it.
Half step above would be F [C] sharp and C over [F] F, A, C.
[B] That's F sharp [C] and C coming down to F and [E] B over E, G sharp, B.
[Em] Back to the first degree, [F] which is a C major 9.
I went a half [B] step down and played the chord.
[G]
B.
This is a B7 [Eb] with a sharp 9 and a sharp 5.
[Dm] Sharp 9, sharp [Eb] 5.
I used [Cm] those for passing [G] chords.
[Em] And back to the [C] first degree, C major [G] 7.
[Em]
[Dm]
[Am]
[G] 3, [F] 6, 2.
[Db]
[G] You can get the rest of [C] the song in our book, [Bb] HowToPlayGospel.com.
How [B] to play gospel, contemporary [F] and traditional.
[G] This is a C major [B] 9.
It's a pretty [C] voice.
C, E, [E] B, [G] D, G, B.
