Great Gig in the Sky piano tutorial Pink Floyd chords
Start Jamming...
Hi guys, how you doing?
I probably only got a few minutes of battery left on this camera.
It's in the last little yellow rice-a-roni.
We're in [Bm] trouble.
Hey, I'm just learning [N] some tunes out of the Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon book.
It's great.
Remember this album?
You gotta look at it.
Yes, there it is.
Okay.
I'm working on the song Great Gig in the Sky,
[Bm] and I'm going to put a tutorial together about that.
[B] Remember?
[F] [B] [Bb]
[F]
[Gm]
[C] [G] [Gm]
[C]
It [E] kind of just goes on like that.
I just got the pedal down [Am] the whole way,
just making it mushy.
[N] Maybe I'll teach you how that starts,
and we'll go from there if you're interested.
[Bm] You know what?
This song starts on this spooky B minor,
but you gotta remember the song that was playing before.
That's what I was just fooling around [N] with here.
When I saw the chords here, I thought,
oh, I gotta turn the camera on and show you guys how to play the chords from the song before.
The [Em] song before is called Breathe,
and the end of it is Reprise.
Breathe, Reprise.
That's what they're calling it there.
Let's go back.
Let's just get my piano, my normal piano on here.
So, Home, Home Again.
Those are the words.
Home [A] again.
Remember how that goes?
[Em] I'd like to be here when [A] I can.
Way too high for me, [Db] but E minor [E] in the bass.
[B] [G]
[A] See that?
[B] That's an E minor.
[A] So, two chords, E minor 7th and A major.
So, underneath here, when you're playing the E minor,
[Em] [G]
you're just spelling [E] out an E minor chord.
[B]
[G] [A]
[Db] [Em]
[G] [A]
That's how the singing goes across.
I'll add these chords, and you'll know this [C] song, won't you?
And then it starts getting cool as we're slowing down and moving to the end,
and then into the great gig in the sky.
Remember these chords?
Far away across the fields, [Bm] the tolling of the iron bell,
[Am] bring the faithful to their knees,
[G] to hear the softly [D] [Ebm] spoken magic [Bm]
spell.
And that's where we're going to start the great gig in the sky.
We're going to let that ring.
[B]
[F] [B]
Let's learn that.
[Bm] Okay, B minor.
B, B, B, D, F sharp.
[Bbm] And the secret here, as we're going through all these chords,
there's not that many, like about, oops, I'm not [F] on the right page,
like about 10 chords we've got to learn.
The key [Bm] is just kind of fool around with them, the notes yourself.
What's typically happening is,
it kind of identifies this tune, doesn't it?
You're alternating the top two notes of the chords I'm going to give you
with the third note, right?
That kind of thing is going to be going on.
So when I give you these chords,
let's just talk about them first.
So, B minor, [B] we're going to hit the bass,
[Bm]
and just leave it sit there.
So just get used to that, playing the top of the B minor,
and then alternating with the B.
It does that for four beats.
[B]
There's our next chord, F.
You know [N] what, you guys got to start seeing these chords.
Oh, I hope I don't have to draw that again.
I'm running out of battery, sorry.
So it's B minor, F, B flat,
and F with an A bass, [Bm] okay?
Oh, people are coming in, I'm going to have to go put groceries away.
Here we go.
B minor, [B]
call that [Eb] an F.
So we've gone up to the F bass,
and we're [N] just going to press it down and let it sit there,
right across the [D] whole bar.
The right hand, you know what was really cool about that?
Look what was [Bm] really cool.
When we were playing the B minor, we were playing a B and a D, right?
The cool thing is, that stays there.
Up to the F.
[B] Pinky goes up to the A.
[F]
[B] Now, I think the easiest way to describe to do this,
is just watch me do it.
See if you can just do it with me, that's the only way.
So [F] it's
[B] kind of a timing to it.
[F]
[B] Okay, and the F's, [F] [Bm]
go back to the top.
B minor,
[B]
[F] [B]
okay?
Third chord, [Bb] B flat.
We keep going up, up to the B flat here.
Same alternating thing, right?
So, there's B flats.
That's a normal B flat chord you'd play like that.
Okay, let's play the whole chord,
but we'll split up from the left and right hand.
B flats here.
And I'd like you to have finger placement like this,
because we're going to have to stretch out right after.
So the B flat here is the alternating there.
Just start with this.
Okay, just start with that alternating.
So F, B flat, and D.
And then we're going to go up and hit the D.
[F] [Bb]
There's the B flat chord, right, we're talking about.
So we're only one note out of it.
Did you see that tapping the D there?
Uh-oh, I'm on red right, so Ronis.
I'm going to take off now so I don't lose this video.
So, [Db] why don't you come see me again,
or throw a comment in if you want me to finish this tune.
If there's enough people interested, we'll do it.
So, thanks a lot guys, see you soon.
Thanks for stopping [N] by.
