Greenfields is the defining song in the career of the Brothers Four.
I heard the original Brothers Four recording growing up in Spokane in the early 60s.
If someone had said then that I would be part of that group and happily sing that song
at every Brothers Four performance 50 years later,
I wouldn't have known what to say or what to think.
What I say now is, wow, what an adventure.
What a journey.
What a joy.
What a delight.
And you'll be hearing a lot more about and from the group in the months to come
about the monumental role that it's played and continues to play in my life and career.
There have been changes in personnel over the years, including my joining the group in 1969,
Mike McCoy in 2004, and Carl Olson a few years later.
Along with founding member Bob Flick, we are the group now,
representing what the group was all those years ago,
with our love of the music and our affection for one another.

[Am] Once [Dm] there were valleys [Am] where rivers [E] used to run.
[F] Once [G] there were blue [C] skies with white [A] clouds high above.
[Dm] [G] Once they were part of [Am] an [E] everlasting love.
[Am] We [Dm]
were the lovers of the music.
We were the lovers [Am] who [E]
strolled through [F] green [Am]

[Am] Green [Dm]
fields are gone [Am] now, [E] parched by the sun.
[Am] Gone [Dm] from the valleys [A] where rivers [E] used to run.
[F] Gone [G] with the cold [C] wind that swept [A] into my [Dm] heart.
[G] Gone with the lovers [Am] who let their [E] dreams depart.
[A] [Dm] Where are the green [Am] fields that [E] we [F] used to [Am] roam?
[Dm] [E]
[F] I'll never [G] know what made you [C] run away.
[F] How can I keep searching [G] when dark clouds [C] hide the day?
[Am] I only know [Dm] there's nothing here for me.
[Am] Nothing [Dm] in this wide world left [E] for me to see.
[Am] But [Em] I'll [Dm] keep on [A] waiting [Am] [E] till you return.
[Am] [D] I'll keep on waiting [Am] until [E] the day you [Em] learn.
[F] You [G]
can't be happy [C] while your heart [A] is on the road.
[F] You [G]
can't be [Dm] happy [A] until you [E] bring it [Em] home.
[Am] [Dm] Home to the green [A] fields and me [E]
