[C] [G] Well [Dm] it's getting colder [C] in the state where [G] I lie
Well [F] I'm feeling older [C] and I'm [G] wondering why
Well I hardly [Dm] told her, [C] she was [G] telling me I was dying
Well I [Dm] didn't know her, [C] but I know [G] why she lied
Well I [C] didn't know her, but I [G] know why she died
Yeah, [F] you can [C] say I didn't [G] give it my one way
Another [F] minute on my [C] way, this [G] time around
Yeah, oh [F] yeah, you can [C] say I didn't [G] give it my one way
Another [F] minute on my [C] way, [G] this time around
Oh [F] yeah, and we [Am] won't go [C] down
[G]
This time around.
This time around is really important to the show.
One, because actually as a fan and as a band,
it represents a choice we made in the career.
It was the single, it was the title of our second record.
It's a song about facing death and fighting for something.
It says we won't go down.
It says we won't go down, and so fans as well as us
have an actual connection through that song
because it represented a decision about the kind of band we were.
We always were, but we truly were in practice on our second album.
And as we went through all kinds of turmoil,
labels falling apart, all that stuff changed on our second record.
It had nothing to do with anything we were doing internally.
It made an impact on the connection we had with our audience.
And then musically, it actually literally is this character
that says it's getting colder in this ditch where I lie.
I'm feeling older.
I'm wondering why.
It's talking about death, fighting.
And so it begins the journey of the second half of String Theory,
which is all about metaphoric and literal through the lyric,
this idea of battle, this idea of taking on,
I'm going to take this head on.
It's sort of leading from the front with the sword out.
And because in Reaching for the Sky Part II,
it says the boy becomes a man,
the idea that in this time around,
the character is saying I'm feeling older,
I'm feeling like I've grown into a new kind of stage in my life.
I think that's important to reinforce this message.
Yeah, [F] you can [C] say I didn't give [G] it, I won't wait
[C] I never meant [F] it on my [C] way, but this [G] time around
Yeah, oh yeah
[F] You can [C] say I didn't [G] give it, I won't wait
I've never [F] meant it on my [C] way, this [G] time around
Yeah, oh yeah
[F] You can [C] say I didn't [G] give it, I won't wait
