[F] [Ebm] Now this was of course a way of playing [Bb] through Hava Nagila.
It's kind of based on [Gm] Harry Belafonte's [Bb] version along with Danny Kaye.
I very [Fm] much enjoyed watching that concert.
Pretty iconic, [Bb]
I'd say.
Anyway, [E] so but as for the arrangement or how to approach a song, [D] you're pretty much on
your own for [Eb] that one.
Because there are many arrangements and versions out there.
I'll point out a couple of [E] things in the lesson [Db] though, but you're indeed on [Eb] your own for
how you want to do so.
We're going to do [Ab] quite a bit of things in this lesson because [E] how they performed it
was in this particular key.
E dominant 7 there.
To [Am] chord 4, A minor.
[Gm] Or to chord [Dm] 7, D minor [E] there.
And of course this [Em] is how you would accompany yourself when singing [Eb] it, but you can also
of course play [E] the melody.
[Am] [F]
[Fm] [Db] Something [Ab] like that.
So we also break down how to [B] do that in this particular key.
[Db] But indeed [Ab] we also are going to take a look [Eb] at another key.
[B] [E]
D7, E minor [Am] and A minor.
And for [Ab] that one, two different [Eb] ways how to play [C] the melody as well.
[Eb] Of course you can also sing it.
This is really [Bb] about [Gm] the range of your voice or [Eb] well, whatever [Db]
is there to [Em] consider for that matter.
The [Eb] melody is actually [Gm] based on the [Ab] Jewish scale, [F] also [Ab] known as the Phrygian dominant
scale or the [Cm] Phrygian major [Db] scale or the [E] Alta Phrygian scale or the [Em] Spanish [Ab] Gypsy scale
[E] or what they would say at Berklee, [Eb] the Mixolydian flat 9, [Bb]
flat 13 scale.
[Ab] I'm going to call it the Jewish scale.
Fits the song [E] perfectly I'd say.
So we take a [Gm] thorough look at that as well, how it [E] works, because it's also the fifth
mode of the [Bb] harmonic minor scale.
[Ab] Well indeed, [E] enough to talk about.
So eventually two keys that we will discuss and also two [Db] ways of course then for how to
play the [Eb] melody and for one, two ways of how to play [Ab] it.
I hope you are still with me [Eb] there.
This is really, really a fun, fun, fun song.
Much done at Jewish celebrations.
Of course it's an Israeli [E] folk [Am] song and [Cm] yeah, much, much [E] fun to play or to sing or to dance [Eb] at, whatever.
[Ab] Anyway, so if you would like to learn [Eb] all those details [Db] and how to [E] indeed play it, play
the melody or hence on, [Bb] then take [Eb] a look at it at TotallyGuitars.com.
