[Gm] Hey all today, we're going to do a lesson on that McCartney tune off of the Ram album my favorite McCartney album actually
it's heart of the country and
I guess a little bit tricky because
It's one of those ones where?
Paul tunes down
From standard so it sounds like it's in D, but he's actually playing it in C because he's tuned down
So we'll get right into it
It's another one of those ones where
He does his is also typical
Finger [Cm] picking where he kind of [Bb] is playing with
so [B] he kind of [Bb] does the picks the bass out with his thumb the bass notes, [A] [G] [Gm] and then is [Bb] playing just sort of
squeezing on the the strings
With [G] his pointer finger so it starts in C
And he opens with just a kind of a typical country ish
C chord and then
Hits the bass G note the E string of the third fret with that same [Bb] finger
So he's doing this and with your plucking fingers.
It's just
So hit that pinch that E the high E and sort of [Fm] the [Bb] B string like [F] that
[C] so [Bb] go C E [Dm] minor
So [D] on the E minor since the E is the lowest note [Gm] you can do [A] you?
With your thumb you pick the B [N] string of the A string at the second fret [B] on that B note
[Dm] And then the low E, so you're doing
[Bb] E
[Dm] minor then a [C] minor and again
It's the same thing that when you do the a note and then the low E the a string and the low E string for the two [Gb] [Gm] thumb notes
[A] [Bb] Back to the start [F] again now one thing that you'll note when you hear [Bb] it
Sometimes he's playing the C [E] with the high E string covered at the third fret for that G note there
Sometimes he does it sometimes you don't I he doesn't and I haven't listened to it closely enough to see where he does it
But you know you could just kind of throw those in if you want to do it like he does
But on the second [Bb] time through so it goes the first time through C
D [Dm] minor a
[Gm] minor
[Bb] Second time through at C.
[Am] E7 [D]
and
[G] You have to play the E7 as a four fingered one not that two fingered version
But play a full E and then the B string
Covered at the third fret and in fact if you're going to sort of play pop and rock music
You should pretty much always do your E7 like that so the [Bb] second time through at C
[F] [D] E7 and
Then back to the [Gm] A minor again, and then it's [A] an A7 heart of the country is going to the [G] chorus
That's a regular a and then cover the high E at the third fret
[C] And then it's this this actually would be this chord
[Gm]
But [Cm] [G] I'm playing it
I think he's doing it with an open D string and then the G B and E at the fifth fret so it's just those
and he kind of changes the
Picking slash strumming when he gets to the chorus, so it's just
[Gm]
[G] [Gm]
[C] And then it's into that but do [Dm] that a did it now, which is really the the crux of the song I guess
[Eb] [Db] So [Gm] [G]
that's [Db] G string at the one two three four five six seven G string
[Gm] Hammer on from eight to [G] nine
[Gm]
Kind of do that with your [Db] thumb.
I guess [G] [Gm]
so that's just those four [Db] G string eight nine then B [D] string [Fm] eight [G] ten
[Gm]
So on and off [G] with that one do you do to do it?
[Gm]
So again, [Db] [Gm]
that's the first part of it [G] so so
G string eight nine
B string [Gm] eight ten then back and forth
so you hammer it off and then you're back to the G string at the night and
[G] Then B string at the 11th, so you could [Db] that whole lick goes
[Gm]
And notice how here's [Db] the plucking.
[G]
I mean you could pluck them
[Gm]
I don't think that's [Db] what he's doing [G] and then the day
Kind of hits it [Db] hard to [G] and then the second time through is very [Db] similar
[Gm]
so far the same
then it's the high E string at the eighth and
Then bent up.
I [C] [Fm]
mean
Two [G] full steps so bend it up
Back down again, then the B string from 11 9
back
[Gm]
and forth on that be again
And then it goes down to the G string 10 to 9
Back up to level off start from the bend again
Back and forth on the B from the 11th tonight then [D] back down to the [G] G at the [Db]
[Gm] 9th
[Db] [Gm] [G] Okay
[Gm] Then [G]
right now.
I'm on G at 9
[Db] 8
[D] 9 B from 9 [Gm] to 11
Back down to the B string at the 9th
I'm sorry at the 8th and then the rest is on the G string
So it's G at 10 9 8 7 and then hit that a chord at the fifth fret
So that's the really [Gb] the D string [G]
at the 7th
[Bb] [Db] [Gm]
[C] [G] [C] Do do do do do do [E] do do do do D 7 and [G] then you [A] just do he's really just [Eb] hitting these
[F] [G] The two E strings, but I do them as full bar, [Eb] so if you get sloppy
[F] [G] Okay, [E] so that's the first time [Bb] through then it starts over again
so [Dm] [G] then the second time through
the only thing different is
[Gm] Do
[G]
[C] do do do do do do [Db] the second time through [A] the with a walk up is [Bb] this?
[Eb] [F] [G] Right [Eb]
so that's the D string at the third high E string at the fifth
[Gm] Just those two don't don't get too sloppy with the plucking on that just those two then move it up two [Dm] strings
then the last one is the pinky your the high E is up at the ninth and
You're [A] hitting an open a [Eb] string so it goes [F] [G] right
[Eb] [F] [G] [C] Then it's back to the [Bb] beginning again, [Dm] and [Gm]
[C] then at the end is
It [G] just ends on that D thing
[Em] So I'll do [E] I'll do one last close-up look [G] at that [Ab] plucking [G]
[Gm] [Db] [G]
[Db] [Gm]
[C]
[G] and on an egg
[C] D7
[Eb] like [G] that so
[N] If you have any trouble with the the lick part send me an email
But I think you can get it if you just do it slow like that and just keep practicing that the little licks
Up at the ninth and 11th in there, and it's not as difficult as it sounds trust me
it's heart of the country and
I guess a little bit tricky because
It's one of those ones where?
Paul tunes down
From standard so it sounds like it's in D, but he's actually playing it in C because he's tuned down
So we'll get right into it
It's another one of those ones where

[Gm]

So [D] on the E minor since the E is the lowest note [Gm] you can do [A] you?
With your thumb you pick the B [N] string of the A string at the second fret [B] on that B note
[Dm] And then the low E, so you're doing
_ _ _ [Bb] E _

[Eb] [Db] So [Gm] _ _ _ _ [G] _
that's [Db] G string at the one two three four five six seven G string
[Gm] _ Hammer on from eight to [G] nine
[Gm]
Kind of do that with your [Db] thumb.
I guess [G] _ _ [Gm]
so that's just those four [Db] G string eight nine then B [D] string [Fm] eight [G] ten
_ [Gm] _
So on and off [G] with that one do you do to do it?
[Gm] _
_ So again, [Db] _ [Gm] _ _ _ _
that's the first part of it [G] so _ so
_ _ _ _ _ G string eight nine
B string [Gm] eight ten then back and forth
so _ you hammer it off and then you're back to the G string at the night and
_ _ _ [G] _ _ Then B string at the 11th, so you could [Db] that whole lick goes

I [C] _ [Fm] _ _
mean
Two [G] full steps _ _ so bend it up

_ [Gm] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ and forth on that be again
And _ _ then it goes down to the G string 10 to 9
Back _ up to level off start from the bend again _ _ _ _ _
_ _ Back and forth on the B from the 11th tonight then [D] back down to the [G] G at the [Db]
[Gm] 9th _ _ _ _ _ _ _
[Db] _ [Gm] _ _ _ _ [G] _ Okay
_ [Gm] _ Then _ _ _ [G] _
_ _ right now.
I'm on G at 9
[Db] _ 8
[D] _ 9 B from 9 [Gm] to 11
_ Back down to the B string at the _ 9th
I'm sorry at the 8th and then the rest is on the G string
_ So it's G at 10 9 8 7 and then hit that a chord at the fifth fret
So that's the really [Gb] the D string [G]
at the _ 7th _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [Bb] _ [Db] _ [Gm] _ _ _
[C] _ _ [G] _ _ _ [C] Do do do do do do [E] do do do do D 7 and [G] then you [A] just do he's really just [Eb] hitting these
[F] _ [G] _ The two E strings, but I do them as full bar, [Eb] so if you get sloppy
[F] _ [G] Okay, _ [E] so that's the first time [Bb] through then it starts over again
so [Dm] _ _ [G] then the second time through
the only thing different is
[Gm] Do _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [G] _
_ [C] do do do do do do [Db] the second time through [A] the with a walk up is [Bb] this?
_ [Eb] _ [F] _ [G] Right [Eb] _
so that's the D string at the third high E string at the fifth _
[Gm] Just those two don't don't get too sloppy with the plucking on that just those two then move it up two [Dm] strings
then the last one is the pinky your the high E is up at the ninth and
You're [A] hitting an open a [Eb] string so it goes [F] [G] right _
_ [Eb] _ [F] _ [G] _ _ _ [C] Then it's back to the [Bb] beginning again, [Dm] and _ [Gm] _ _
[C] then at the end is
_ _ It [G] just ends on that D thing
[Em] _ _ So I'll do [E] I'll do one last close-up look [G] at that [Ab] plucking [G] _
[Gm] _ [Db] _ [G] _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [Db] _ [Gm] _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ [C] _
[G] _ _ _ and on an egg _ _
[C] D7
_ [Eb] like [G] _ _ that so
_ [N] If you have any trouble with the the lick part send me an email
But I think you can get it if you just do it slow like that and just keep practicing that the little licks
Up at the ninth and 11th in there, and it's not as difficult as it sounds trust me
