Hey guys, it's Carl Brown from Guitar Lessons 365.com.
Today we are going to learn how to play 8-6-7-5-3-0-9 Ginny by Tommy Two Tone.
So this one's a pretty fun one.
It's got some cool guitar stuff in it.
We're in standard tuning, but they're actually a quarter step off.
You know, old analog days and they redo it in different tape speeds or whatever.
Or maybe it's intentional.
But if you try to play exactly with the album, it's not going to sound quite right.
But they are playing in standard.
It's just a little bit off.
So we're going to learn it in standard anyway.
So let's check out here.
We're going to play this intro lick, which happens a lot in the song.
As I show you these different parts, a lot of times in the song, you'll hear one or two
of them going on at the same time.
Sometimes three at the same time.
So you'll be able to recognize it pretty easy what's going on.
So if you have multiple guitar players, you guys can just each take a part.
So let's start [C#m] with this intro.
[E]
[C#m] You're going to play 6th fret on the G, 5th fret on the B, [Em] and then the open high E string.
[C#m] And then just change it to [E] the 7th fret on the G.
Pick across those strings again.
[C#m] Back to the 6th fret one.
Then [E] come [C#m]
down to the 4th fret here, 4th on the G and the B, and the high E [B] string open.
[E] [B]
You're going to pick the G, [E] B, high E, [B] then the B, the G string.
[E] And [C#m] start over.
[G] [C#m] [E]
[C#m] [G] [C#m]
[B] [E] [F#] Alright, so that goes on during the chorus as well as the intro here.
And this is also the chorus riff that they kicked into at the beginning of the song.
[D] [A] [B] [F#]
[D] [A] [B] [D] [F#]
[D] [F#] So that's just the power chord here at the 2nd fret off the 6th string.
[E] Then a power chord version [D] of the D.
So all you need is the D chord, but you're just picking
the [A] D string, [D] G, and the B string.
A [A] power chord.
Hit that a couple of times.
And then the 2nd fret power chord off the A [B] string.
[F#] [D]
[A] [B] [F#] [D]
So [A] [B] [F#]
[D] [A] [B]
[F#] [D] [A] [B] [D]
[A] that kind of serves as the verse as well too, just not [F#m] this big huge sounding version of that.
Now there is a fill that happens a lot that happens multiple times.
It sounds like this.
[A] [B]
[C#m] Alright, so that's just [G#] what happens during the verse.
So that's what happens in the verse.
You're picking the 6th fret on [C#m] the G, 5th fret on the B.
[A] Pick it a couple of [C#m] times.
[Em]
Slide it down to the [C#m] 2 frets.
[B]
[E] Then the 2nd fret on the B and the [A] G together.
[F#] To the 4th fret on the D.
[C#m]
[G] [A] [F#] Then you're going to play [G] the [A] 2nd fret on the G [D]
and the 3rd
fret on the B.
[F#] Back to that 4th fret on the D.
So [C#m] we have this.
[B] [A]
[F#] [D] [F#]
[B] Back to the 2nd fret ones on the B and the G together [A] twice.
[B]
And then the 4th fret now to end it with on the G and the D together.
[C#m] Like this.
[A] [D]
[A] [B]
[C#m] One more time.
[A] [D]
[A] [B]
[E] Alright, then we get to the chorus, oh the pre-chorus which sounds like this.
[D]
[A] [E] [A]
[D] [E]
[D] [A] [B] [F#] [E] Goes into the chorus there.
So that's just an E major chord.
Come across that and then the open [D] D, [C#] then 4 on the [A] A, open [B] A, 2nd fret on [D] the A.
[C#] [A] [B] [E] So all together.
[Bm] [C#] [A] [B] [E] Alright, then you go back to the E, the [A] A major chord [C] [D] and the D major.
[E]
[A] [D]
[E] Back to the low E, the E major chord [D] and back to [A] [G#m]
that little [F#] melody we did earlier.
And then that takes you into the chorus.
[D] [A] [B]
[F#] [D] [A] [B]
[F#] [D] [A] [B]
[F#] [D] [A] [B]
Now going back to the 2nd verse, we start [C#] to introduce another guitar layer.
It sounds like this.
[D] [F#]
[B] [F#] [D]
[F#] [B] [F#] [N] Somebody's been listening to Crazy Train.
So we basically are going to have this kind of a really muted riff and it continues to go [C#m] on.
[D] [C#m] Like I [E] said, you have this thing going on, different parts of the song so just listen to that.
But we have, [F#] all of it's going to be coming back to the 2nd fret here on the low E string
in the beginning.
So we have 2nd fret on the A, [C#] I'm sorry, 4th fret on the [F#] A to the 2nd fret on the low E string.
Then the [D] 5th fret, [N] back down to that previous note.
Then the 4th fret [C#m] again.
Then the 2nd fret, so roll over to the 2nd fret on [B] the A, back down to that [C#m] previous note.
So we have, [F#] [D]
[F#] [B]
[Am] every single one was [C#] done twice.
[F#m]
[B]
Then it starts [F#] over, [D] [F#]
but instead of [B] the last one there, we [C#] go [B] [C#] 2, [B] 4, 2 [F#] on the A to 2 [B] on
the low E.
[F#m]
[B]
[C#] Alright, so then you just repeat that over and over again, both of those parts together.
[D] [F#] [B] [F#m]
[B]
[F#m] Repeat.
Alright, so [G] we have, that pretty much takes care of all the verse and the [C#m] chorus riff
and the intro.
Now we have a bridge section, comes in right before the solo, sounds like this.
[E] [F#m]
[A] [B] [C#m]
[E] [F#]
[A] [B] [C#m]
[E] Alright, so that's just a C sharp minor [C#] barre chord.
[E] Now a 5 string barre at the 4th fret there.
[A#] 2nd fret on the B, 6th fret on the D and the G.
And [E] you pretty much, most of the time, you kind of [C#] strum the chord [C#m] and then just picking
across [E] downward from the 1st, 2nd to [C#m] 3rd string.
[E] Same thing on the E.
Then the F sharp minor [F#m] chord, [E] full barre there, the 2nd fret, 4th
fret on the D and the [F#m] A there.
[A] Then the A major chord and [Em] the B major [B] chord.
We have this [C#m] all together.
[E] [F#m]
[A] [B]
[C#m] Now just start those chords over again.
[E]
When you get [F#] to the F sharp, start kind of chugging on that thing a little bit.
[A] [B] [A] [B] And then you have the final [A] two chords.
You can [B] kind [C] of build up the tension to go [C#m] back into that riff, [E] [C#m] [E]
which leads [N] us into the guitar solo.
So let me play through the guitar solo for you real quick and then we'll take a look at it.
[B] [F#m]
[D] [F#] [B]
[C#m] [B] [F#m]
[G#m] [A] [C#] [Bm]
[N]
[B] [A] [E]
Alright, so it's pretty simple here.
We're going to do a slow bend at the 9th [D] fret on [B] the D string.
[A] [B] That's the first phrase, we're going to do that first.
[A] Kind of slow half step bend at the 9th fret, the 7th fret on the D [F#] and then we'll play
9, 7, 9 on the A.
Back to a [B] slight bend again at the 7th fret on the D.
[A]
[B] Alright, next phrase.
[C#m]
[F#]
[B] Alright, so we're going to slide into the [C#] 11th on the 9 on [B] the D.
[C#m] Play 9 a couple of
times on the G.
Back to 11 on [E] the D.
Back to that 9 on the G.
[F#] [E] Then do a trill 9 to 11
on the G.
[F#]
Play that [D] 11 and then the 10th fret on the B, just a slight [B] little bend there
and kill the sound.
[C#m]
[F#]
[B] Alright, next phrase.
[A] [B]
[D] Alright, so it's a whole step bend at the 12th [E] fret on the B.
[A] Release that [B] bend.
Play 10, 12 on the B.
Then 11 on the G.
[D] So 10 on the B.
[B]
[F#] Then 9, 11 on the G.
[Bm] [F#]
[B] [E] [F#] [Bm] Then 11
[C#m] on the D.
[E] Then 9 on the G to slide down from 11 [C#] to 9 [B] on the D.
[C#]
[B] [A] [C#m] [B]
[Dm] Alright, the next phrase.
[F#] [A] [G] [F#]
[N] Alright, so the 7th fret real quick on the D string.
[B] Then you slide from 9 to 11 on the D.
[C#] Then jump back [F#m] and slide from 9 to 11 on the G.
[C#m] [F#] [A] Then 9, 10, 12 on the D.
[E]
Then 9 on the high E string.
[Em]
And then [A#] [Gm] whole step bend there at the 12th fret on the high E.
[A] Hold that last one.
[C#]
[E] Notice I was killing those.
[A] [E]
[G#] After you play it, release [N] the pressure.

So that's what happens in the verse.
You're picking the 6th fret on [C#m] the G, 5th fret on the B. _
_ [A] Pick it a couple of [C#m] times.
_ [Em] _
Slide it down to the [C#m] 2 frets.
[B] _ _ _ _
[E] Then the _ 2nd fret on the B and the [A] G together. _
_ _ [F#] _ _ To the 4th fret on the D.
[C#m] _
_ [G] _ [A] _ [F#] _ _ _ Then you're going to play [G] the [A] 2nd fret on the G [D] _

[F#] Back to that 4th fret on the D.

_ [B] _ [A] _
_ [F#] _ [D] _ _ _ _ _ [F#] _

_ _ [B] _ _

[C#] _ [A] _ [B] _ [E] So all together. _ _
[Bm] _ _ [C#] _ [A] _ [B] _ _ [E] Alright, then you go back to the E, _ the [A] A major chord _ [C] [D] and the D major.
_ _ _ [E] _
_ _ _ [A] _ _ [D] _ _ _
[E] Back to the low E, _ _ _ the E major chord _ [D] and back to _ [A] _ _ [G#m]
that little [F#] melody we did earlier.
And then that takes you into the chorus.
_ [D] _ _ [A] _ _ [B] _ _ _
[F#] _ [D] _ _ [A] _ _ _ [B] _ _
[F#] _ [D] _ _ [A] _ _ [B] _ _ _
[F#] _ [D] _ _ _ [A] _ [B] _ _ _
Now going back to the 2nd verse, we start [C#] to introduce another guitar layer.
It sounds like this.
_ [D] _ _ [F#] _

Then the [D] 5th fret, [N] back down to that previous note.
_ Then the 4th fret [C#m] again.
_ _ Then the 2nd fret, so roll over to the 2nd fret on [B] the A, _ back down to that [C#m] previous note.
So we have, [F#] _ _ _ [D] _ _ _ _
[F#] _ _ _ _ _ [B] _ _ _
_ [Am] every single one was [C#] done twice.
[F#m] _ _ _
_ _ _ [B] _ _ _ _
Then it starts [F#] over, _ [D] _ _ _ [F#] _
_ _ but instead of [B] the last one there, we [C#] go [B] _ _ _ _ _ _ [C#] 2, [B] 4, 2 [F#] on the A to 2 [B] on

_ [F#m] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ [B] _ _
_ [C#] Alright, so then you just repeat that over and over again, both of those parts together.
[D] _ _ [F#] _ _ [B] _ _ [F#m] _
_ _ _ _ _ [B] _ _ _
[F#m] _ _ _ Repeat.
Alright, so [G] we have, that pretty much takes care of all the verse and the [C#m] chorus riff
and the _ intro.
Now we have a bridge section, comes in right before the solo, sounds like this. _

_ _ [A] _ _ [B] _ _ [C#m] _ _
_ [E] _ _ _ _ _ _ [F#] _
_ _ [A] _ _ _ [B] _ _ [C#m] _
[E] _ _ _ Alright, so that's just a C sharp minor [C#] barre chord.
[E] _ _ Now a 5 string barre at the 4th fret there.
[A#] 2nd fret on the B, 6th fret on the D and the G.
And [E] you pretty much, most of the time, _ you kind of [C#] strum the chord [C#m] and then _ _ _ _ just picking
across [E] downward from the 1st, 2nd to [C#m] 3rd string. _ _ _
_ _ _ [E] Same thing on the E. _ _
_ _ Then the F sharp minor [F#m] chord, _ _ _ [E] full barre there, the 2nd fret, 4th
fret on the D and the [F#m] A there.
_ _ _ _ [A] Then the A major chord _ and [Em] the B major [B] chord.
_ _ _ We have this [C#m] all together. _ _
_ _ [E] _ _ _ _ [F#m] _ _
_ [A] _ _ _ _ [B] _ _
[C#m] Now just start those chords over again.
_ _ _ [E] _

[G#m] _ [A] _ [C#] _ _ _ [Bm] _ _ _
_ _ _ [N] _ _ _ _ _
_ [B] _ _ [A] _ _ _ _ [E] _
_ _ _ _ Alright, so it's pretty simple here.
We're going to do a slow bend at the 9th [D] fret on [B] the D string.
_ _ [A] _ _ _ _ [B] That's the first phrase, we're going to do that first.
[A] Kind of slow half step bend at the 9th fret, the 7th fret on the D [F#] and then we'll play
9, 7, 9 on the A.
_ _ _ Back to a [B] slight bend again at the 7th fret on the D.
_ _ [A] _ _ _
_ _ [B] _ _ Alright, next phrase.
[C#m] _
_ _ _ [F#] _ _ _ _ _
_ [B] Alright, so we're going to slide into the _ [C#] 11th on the 9 on [B] the D.
[C#m] _ _ Play 9 a couple of
times on the G.
_ Back to 11 on [E] the D.
Back to that 9 on the G.
_ _ _ [F#] _ _ [E] Then do a trill 9 to 11
on the G.
_ _ [F#] _
Play that [D] 11 and then the 10th fret on the B, just a slight _ [B] little bend there
and kill the sound.
[C#m] _
_ _ [F#] _ _ _ _ _ _
[B] Alright, next phrase. _ _ _ _
[A] _ _ _ _ _ [B] _ _ _
_ [D] Alright, so it's a whole step bend at the 12th [E] fret on the B. _
_ _ _ _ [A] _ Release that [B] bend.
Play 10, 12 on the B. _ _
Then 11 on the G.
[D] So 10 on the B.
_ [B] _ _
_ _ _ [F#] Then 9, 11 on the G. _
[Bm] _ _ _ _ _ _ _ [F#] _
[B] _ _ _ _ [E] _ [F#] _ [Bm] Then 11
[C#m] on the D.
[E] Then 9 on the G to slide down from 11 [C#] to 9 [B] on the D.
_ _ [C#] _ _
[B] _ _ [A] _ _ _ [C#m] _ [B] _ _
_ _ [Dm] Alright, the next phrase. _
[F#] _ _ [A] _ _ [G] _ _ [F#] _ _
_ [N] _ _ Alright, so the 7th fret real quick on the D string.
[B] Then you slide from 9 to 11 on the D.
[C#] _ Then jump back [F#m] and slide from 9 to 11 on the G.
_ _ [C#m] _ _ [F#] _ _ [A] Then 9, 10, 12 on the D.
_ _ [E] _ _
Then 9 on the high E string.
_ [Em]
And then _ [A#] _ _ [Gm] whole step bend there at the 12th fret on the high E.
[A] _ _ _ Hold that last one. _
_ _ _ _ [C#] _ _ _ _
_ [E] Notice I was killing those.
[A] _ [E] _ _
[G#] After you play it, release [N] the pressure. _ _ _ _
