Howdy everybody!
Welcome to Mahalo.
My name is Julie and I've got a classic one for you today.
I'm going to teach you how to play All My Exes Live in Texas by Mr.
George Strait.
So, the chords you need for the intro are A major, which is open, two, two, two, and open.
And then you're going to also need [E] E major, open, two, two, one, and the rest open.
And then also you're going to [Gb] be playing [E] E7.
You're going to put your pinky down on that E major shape, put your pinky down on the third fret of the B.
And the strumming pattern for this is a pretty simple country shuffle.
[A] So we're going to do down, down, up, down, up, down, up.
[E]
E, E7, E, E7, [A] back to A.
[E] Now, for your verse, you're going to need those same chords to start [A] with.
So we have A, my exes live [E] in E, E7, E, E7.
And then [Bm] we're going to do a little walk down here.
We're going to use B minor, which is bar the second fret, and then four, four, and three.
[Bb] And then we'll walk it down to B flat major, which is you bar the first fret, and then three, three, three.
The rest of your fingers.
[E] So from that E7, it's going to be [Bm]
D [Bb] minor, B [A] flat, A.
And the strumming [Bm] I'm doing there is down, down, [Bb] up, down, [A] down, up.
So I'm going to go through that one more time from the [Em] beginning of the verse, starting with [A] A.
My exes live [E] in E, E7.
And Texas is the place that [Bm] E7, B [Bb] minor, B [A] flat, A.
Continue on with A.
My exes live in [E] Texas, E major, E7, E, E7, back to A.
So that's [Em] your chorus, actually.
I [Bb] think I might have said that that was your verse, but I'm just kidding.
That was your chorus.
Song starts with a chorus.
Now we're into our verse.
So our verse, we need [A] these chords.
A major, [Bm]
B minor, [E] E, E7, and then a new chord that we're going to play at [B] the very end, which is B7.
Starting on the A string is two, one, two, open, and two.
So the [N] chorus, sorry, the verse, we're in the verse.
I keep getting it mixed up, but I know where I am.
We're in the verse.
The verse sounds like [A] this.
Rock banner down, starting on A, [Bm] back to B minor.
Back [E] to E, E7, got a [A] A, and A, B [Bm] minor.
Now we go to B7.
[B] Simple tune now, lives in simple.
[E] E, E, bend [A] to A.
Now we're in our chorus again.
Lives, lives [E] in simple.
E, E7, E, E7, then we [Bm] go B minor, [Bb] B flat, [A] to A, A.
My exes live [E] in E major.
E7, E, E7, back [A] to A.
[N] And then we repeat our verse, repeat our chorus.
To play the rhythm part on the solo, you're just going to do the same chords you did in the intro,
which was that A, E, E7, E, E7.
And [Bb] then we play our chorus one last time.
And then we have a little bit of a tagline.
Basically, we're just going to repeat the last part of that chorus.
So I'm going to do the [Ab] last chorus one more time for you.
So we do [A] A, my exes live in [E] E, E7, E, E7, [Bm] B [Bb] minor, B [A] flat, A.
All my exes live [E] in E7.
He's got a really low voice.
I can't sing that low.
E7, [A] Tennessee.
Tagline, which is, [E] some folks think I'm E7, E, E7.
But I'm alive and well in [A] Tennessee.
End on A.
[Ab] And that's how you play [Gb] All My Exes [D] Live in Texas by George Strait.
