[A] Hey [E] everyone, howdy folks.
Welcome to [Dm] musicwithryan.com.
Today's lesson I'm going to show you how to play the song Cherokee Shuffle.
[A] A standard flat picking fiddle tune.
If you're going to hit the jam circle and of course [F] in the key of A, my capo on the second fret.
I'm going to walk through this tune measure by measure for you.
Give you a chance to learn this tune and it's an intermediate arrangement for those of you wondering.
Let's go ahead and give the arrangement a listen to and then we'll start breaking it down.
Here we [A] go.
[E] [A]

[F#] [C#]
[A]
Alright, so as you see, pretty straight forward.
I'm sticking real close to the melody [N] on this tune.
Nothing too fancy.
A very obtainable arrangement.
I'm going to walk through it with close ups of my left and right hand so you can master
this and see exactly what I'm doing.
You can bring this to the jam and have some fun with this tune.
I think it's a great arrangement.
And then if you like the video lesson so far, I'd ask you to go over to my website, musicwithryan.com
and check out all the material I have over there.
You can purchase this full length video lesson and you'll receive about 20 minutes of video,
20-22 minutes, I think it's a little longer.
And two backing tracks and of course the tabs for this.
And the tabs are going to be on the screen the whole time but it's nice to have to print them out.
And I've got an e-book over there with 25 tunes in it and some other stuff.
So please do check it out and I think it's a great way to learn this genre of music.
Let's go ahead and walk through this tune measure by measure and if you like what you
see, subscribe to my page.
I appreciate it.
Alright, here we go.
Alright, so let's go ahead and take a look at Cherokee Shuffle here a little bit closer.
So I got my cape on the second fret as you see and I'm playing on a G [A] position which
makes for the actual key of A which this song is very often done in.
Alright, so either go ahead and print your tabs off if you haven't already done so or
again they'll be up on the screen for you to check.
And the markings on the bottom are your right hand pick directions and if there's little
numbers on the top staff, on top of the staff, those are your finger numbers.
One, two, three, four, okay?
So pay attention to those too because there's some certain things you might need to do with
your left hand as well.
So let's go ahead and look at the first three measures.
It starts on [E] beat four.
So if I, and there's a hammer on from on the D string.
[F#]
Okay?
Make sure you get [E] a nice solid [B] sound out of that.
So it's on beat four.
I'll do the first three measures here slowly, or two and a half measures.
One, two, three.
[A]
[B]
[A] [E]
Okay, so a few things to watch out for in there.
[E]
[F#] [A] And remember, my hammer [B] ons, I don't want, I want a nice clean [E] hammer on or equal duration.
They're both eighth notes.
So
[F#] [A] and then my third finger is going to be on the fifth fret and [E] then a little [A] eighth note.
[Em]
Okay?
And you might have [A] seen me slide into that during the performance.
It's kind of a [C#] habit.
So if that's a little troublesome at first, worry about the slide later.
Okay?
And you [A] can,
[B]
[A]
[B] and then I'm going to pick and slide at the same time [G#m] to the fourth fret.
And again, I'm using my second finger there, [B] [A] [F#]
[E] the quarter notes there in the third, the
second full measure.
[A]
[B] [A]
[F#] [E]
Okay?
So moving on now, let's do the next, pull up the next three measures there.
[G]
Starting on the open G string.
[A] [F#]
[A] [B] [C#]
[D] [E] [F#m]
[F#] Okay, let's do that all again.
