[B] What's up guys, my name is Callen and today I'm going to be [C] teaching you how to play Gary
Clark [Bb] Jr.'s.' cover of Come Together by The Beatles. I'm going over the main [E] riff as well as the little solo [Eb] lick that he's doing in the song. So let's get right into it. So first things first, you're going to [G] want a lot of distortion. Turn it up basically as far as possible on your amp. And you're also going to [Eb] want to be in drop D tuning, which is [Gm] super simple to do. It's just one string, just a low E string tuned down to a D. And [G] the easiest way [D] to do that [E] is just to match it to your third string, which [G] should be tuned to a D in [D] standard. [Em] So once you have that out of the way, we can get started with the riff itself, [D] which goes something like this. [F] [D] [Bb] [Cm] So you're just hitting [D] it, the open E twice, [Gm] and I'm just going to refer to it as the E even though it's tuned down. So you hit the [D] open E twice, and [Ab] you slide up from the fourth, around the [Am] fourth, up to the [D] seventh fret. [F] And then you [Bbm] hit the eighth fret on the A. [Dm] [G] And then you just end on the fifth fret on [D] the A. [F] [D] [F] [G] And then we have this little [D] fill. [A] It starts on the [C] thirteenth fret B, [Am] to the tenth fret on the [G] B, to the twelfth on the G, tenth on the [D] G, and then end [Gm] on the twelfth fret D [D] string. And it's basically [C] all [G] hammer-ons and pull-offs, you're just really picking it [Dm] like twice. [C] Or I guess three times. [Dm] [C] [G] [D] It goes back and forth. [Bb] [Dm]
[G] And then the last time, the last go-around, you [D] just hit the open E once, [B] and you do that riff twice. Now, during the [Em] actual verse of the song, every [D] once in a while you're just hitting the open E and the A. [E] [D] [E] You can kind of listen for it in the song. [Am] And then it goes, [A] and that's just [Eb] on the seventh [Am] fret, barring down with your first finger, the [G] E [Am] and the A. And then pause. And you go down to the [G] fifth fret. [B] [D]
[Dm] And then [B] for the chorus, going up to the ninth [Abm] fret, again barring [B] down the E and the A. [G]
[Am] [G] So [A] ninth fret, [G] seventh, fifth, [Am] [E] and then end [C] on the [B] seventh. [G] [A] [G] [Dm]
[Am] Now, for the solo part, he [D] goes [Gm] [F] [G] Something like that. It's not exactly note [Am]-for-note, because I'm just doing it by ear right now. But basically, [D] end there, [G] and then you go to the twelfth fret on the G. [E] [D] [G] Twice. And then to the tenth on the G. [Dm] [G] It's something like that. I'm missing a couple notes, but it's basically just in this box. [Dm] [Am]
That's just kind of a lick that he fills with. For the [G] actual solo, it's mainly done on the high E string. [Eb] And he's doing a lot of vibrato on there. [G] [Em] [Bb]
[Am] [Em]
[Gm] You know, it's something like that. [Eb] Again, for the ending, you're just hitting this. This is the tenth [G] fret on the high E. And then he goes [C] twelve, [G] thirteen, up to the fifteenth. And then [E] walk it back [G] down. And then you just kind of hit the [E] tenth fret on the high E a couple times, and you go [D] back into it. Now, I know that's [B] not note-for-note. That might be confusing for [G] some of you. I understand. I'm still working out the actual solo. [Ab] But that is the gist of it. And you should be able [Em] to get something started with that. And then you have pretty much [Bb] the entire song. [D] [F] [D] So, [F] [G] guys, that was how to play Come Together, covered by [N] Gary Clark Jr. Hope you guys enjoyed. [Ab] Let me know if you did down below, as well as any songs you want to see me do in the future. Hope you guys enjoyed, and [Db] I'll see you later.
