How To Play Goodbye In Her Eyes - Guitar Lesson and Tutorial - Zac Brown Band chords
Start Jamming...
Goodbye In Her Eyes was a number one hit for the Zac Brown Band and was written by Zac Brown, Y.
Durrett, John Driscoll Hopkins, and Sonia Lee.
The song was the second most requested song in our Zac Brown survey and ends up being
pretty accessible to players at all levels.
The hardest part is the introduction.
We're going to teach two versions.
One is going to be the authentic version where Zac Brown is kind of banging on the guitar,
it's very percussive, and then we're also going to teach a very easy version.
The rest of the song is pretty straightforward.
We're going to capo up to the third fret on the acoustic guitar and down tune the lead
guitar to E flat standard tuning.
[C]
[Ab] [Eb]
[Ab] [Eb] [Ab]
[Eb] [Ab]
[Eb]
[Ab] [Eb]
[Ab] [Eb]
[F]
[Gm]
[Ab] [Eb] [Bb]
[Eb]
[Ab] [G]
[Ab] [Cm] [Bb]
[Eb] This tutorial is going to go over a quick and easy way to play this song.
We're going to start with the intro and the first verse.
Let's get a capo on the third fret and then we're going to get our fingers on a C major
chord, standard C major.
And then [Ab] we have this F major 7.
So we've got third fret of D [C] string, second fret of [Eb] G, first [G] fret of B, open [Ab] high E string.
You'll notice when we transition back and forth, [Eb] our pointer finger stays down the whole time.
We're going to use all down strokes.
So we're going to do eight down strokes before transitioning chords for this first part here.
It will just look like this.
One, two, three, four, five, six, [Ab] seven, eight.
Three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
[Eb]
[Ab] [C]
[Abm] [Eb]
Okay, so this is kind of the authentic percussive introduction and first verse that Zac Brown does.
I watched a few videos and it does look like he is kind of using his guitar as a percussive
instrument as well as playing [Ab] some of these chords.
So we have two different things going on here.
One is we're kind of getting our fingers on a C chord, standard C chord, and an F major 7.
So we've got [Cm] third fret, second fret, first fret, open high E string.
And then it's a [D] series of open strings and hammering [F] on and then pulling off these chords.
So it really looks like this.
Let's look at the left hand first.
It's going to [Eb] be,
[Ab] [B] to play the lead guitar part the way it sounds on the record, we'll
need to be in E flat standard tuning.
[Eb] If you don't know how to do that, go to our guitar basics section and under the tuning
videos you'll find a free video that will teach you how to do that.
Once you're in E flat standard, there's really one lick that you can play for about 90% of the song.
It sounds like this.
[Ab] Bridge.
[Eb]
[Ab] [Cm]
[Ab] [Eb]
With that good-bye and ride.
Don't think that I'm changing lanes.
[Ab]
Let's go away [Eb] to the sky.
