Hey guys, it's Carl Brown for Guitar Lessons 365 .com.
Today we're going to take a look at how to play Help by The Beatles.
So this is going to be a quick one today.
We're going to start here.
We're in standard tuning.
We're going to start with a B minor barre chord there at the [Bm] 2nd fret.
So full barre across the 2nd fret, 3rd fret on the B string and 4th fret on the G and the D.
Now we have an overdub here.
So when we're actually doing the song it goes,
[G]
[E]
so that [Bm] B minor, just kind of strums along
and then over to a G major barre chord.
So it's the same exact shape if you don't really know your barre chords too well.
Just move it up, everything up one string.
You continue a full barre across all 6 strings.
Move the other fingers up one string [G] and then up one fret.
So it pretty much feels the exact same.
It's a G major [E] to an E major chord.
Now [Bm]
over that we [B] have this.
[A]
[G]
[F#] [E] So [B] that's just a melody goes 2, then 2, [A] 0, that's on the [N] A string and then to the 3rd
fret on the low E [G] and then [F#] 3, 2, [E] 0.
Now you can put that along together if you just have like one guitar to kind of make
it sound [Bm] fine.
So just kind of strum the chord, [B] keep it going, then [A] play the bass line there and then instead
of playing the barre chord [G] version of G, just play this standard version of G.
This is a regular open position one.
And then
[F#] [Em] that allows you to keep [G] those ringing while you do the bass [F#] line [E]
then to the E major.
Now we have that little [C] guitar lick we [Em] do.
[B] [G] [C#]
[E] Alright so that's going to be the 7th fret on the A string, 5th fret on [Em] the D and then
the G string open and the B string open.
Now you're going to pick across those like this.
Down, down, down.
Hit the last one in upstroke so it will take you back down towards the 5th string where
you're going to pick again.
Down, down, down, up.
Now just move your fret hand down one fret.
[D#m] So now it's the 6th fret on the A string and 4th fret on the D and do the exact same picking.
It's going to have the same two open strings.
[D#] [G]
Then move down one more [Dm] fret, [G]
then one [C#] more fret.
[Em]
[B] [G]
[Em] So just kind of practice that over and over again [D#] [G]
[Em] [A]
to an A major chord.
So we [E] have on there.
[Em] [B] [G] [C#]
[A]
Alright now we have the actual verse which is just the A major to a [C#m] C sharp minor, the
same as that B minor, just up two frets.
Now to an F sharp [F#m] minor chord.
Now that's played very similar to the G major chord we looked at [E] earlier.
Down one fret though to the 2nd fret and pick up that [F#m] 2nd finger.
[A] All together so far.
[C#m]
[G] [F#m]
[F#] Then we just end it [D] with D, [G] G,
[A] A.
[D] [G] [A]
Start over.
[C#m]
[G] [F#m]
[D] [G] [A]
[Bm] And then we go back.
Now the chorus actually goes to minor there and that's what we did in the intro.
[B]
[G]
[E]
[Em] [B] [G] [C#]
[A]
[G] Alright so that's the exact same thing.
Once again I did, instead of doing that barre chord version of the G, I did the open G so
I could [F#] [E]
get [A] that little real identifiable bass line in there.
So that's pretty much the only two parts of the song you have to worry about.
At the very end of the song, we do, you know they do have a quiet part of the song where
they just kind of just,
[C#m]
[F#m] you're just [Em] kind of hitting random strings on those chords, the
same verse chords though.
Nothing to get too worried about.
At the end though, after we do this,
[B] [G] [C#]
instead of going to an A, it goes to an F sharp minor
chord, the [F#m] one we did,
[A] and ends on that A.
[Em] So [D#] [G]
[C#] [F#m]
[A]
that happens about the last 5 or 6 seconds
of the song.
Alright so that's about it for Help.
I enjoyed it.
I hope to see you again soon for GuitarLessons365.com.
