[C] [D] [G] Hey guys, it's Carl Brown from GuitarLessons365.com.
Today we're going to do a quick little lesson on how to play
A Hard Day's Night by The Beatles.
So obviously we're going to be sticking with
John Lennon's part here.
George Harrison would be kind of like, if there's a G chord,
he'd be kind of layering it up.
Kind of a little [Bb] barre chord version of it.
But we'll just stick with John Lennon's part,
which is just the full chord progression
and it sounds great just with one guitar.
We'll also take a look at the solo a little bit later.
So let's start here.
We have two basic chord progressions
we're going to start with.
Oh, wait a minute.
I've got to forget the opening [G] chord.
Pretty easy.
[C]
Third string on the third fret,
I'm sorry, on the first string.
And then the [G] first fret on the B string.
And then the G and the D open together.
Let that ring.
And then we get to the first progression.
[F] [G]
So that's G, [C] to C,
[G] then back to G.
Now it's to an F.
Now how he's playing [Fm] it is just that
two string barre here on the first and second [A] string.
Second fret on the [F] third string.
Third fret on the D string.
And then he's adding the thumb here
on the low first fret.
Now you can just do a full barre if you want.
Or just play the top four strings.
This is kind of uncomfortable to grab.
[G] So we have this all together.
[F]
Back to the G.
Start over.
G, [G] C, D.
Back to the F.
[F] [G] And back to the G.
And we're going to [C] end this with a C,
D, [D] G, [G] [C] C7.
Which is a C chord
with the third fret added
on the G string.
[G] With your little finger.
Then back to that G.
[C] So that ending again [D] is
[G] [Bm] Alright then it starts over
and goes through that same chord progression again.
Alright, then we have
basically what's the bridge, which I do twice in the song.
And it sounds like this.
[Em] [Bm]
[G] [Em] [C]
[D] [G] Alright, so we're starting with [Bm] a B minor
barre chord.
[D] Barre across five strings, third [B] fret on the B,
fourth fret on the G and the D.
[Bm]
So [Em] that E minor chord.
Back to the [Bm] B minor.
Twice as long.
Into [G] the G.
Back to the E [Em] minor.
Now we're going to end it with two seventh chords.
That C7 we looked [C] at just a minute ago.
And then [D] a D7.
That's going to be the open D [A] string,
second fret on [C] the G,
first fret [Gbm] on the B,
and second [D] fret on the high E.
Let me play [Bm] those chords one more time.
[Em]
[Bm]
[G] [Em] [C]
And it's just back to the same
chord thing that we did [G] earlier.
Alright, so let's take a look at the guitar solo.
I'll play through it real quick.
Here we go.
[C] [D] [C]
[G] [D] [Dm]
[Gm] [C] [G]
Alright, so we have the third fret on the low E string.
And then we're going to pick it again.
[Bb] Then first [C] on the A.
[Bb] Three.
Back to the first.
And then you're going to pick the third fret again and slide it to the fifth fret.
[D] Sorry.
[G]
[Bb] [D] [G] One more time.
[C] [D]
Now you're going to
lay a bar across the third fret on the D
and [C] the A string.
So you can hammer on the fifth fret.
[D] Pick the third fret.
Hammer on the fifth on the A string.
[F] And then on top of it
you're going to add the third fret [Dm] on the D.
[F] Do that four times.
Then you're going [C] to pick the fifth fret again.
Slide it down to the third fret real quick.
[G] First fret.
And then the third fret on the low E.
All together.
[C] Then [D] [F]
[G] do it again.
[D] [C]
[G] Then you're going to lead back into the
[C] really the ending of the chorus
where they're at.
[Bb] Three.
[B] One on the A.
Two on [C] the A.
Into that C chord.
[G] [C] [D] Alright.
Besides that we have that little outro.
And it sounds [C] like this.
[F]
[Em] Alright, so just put [F] a
first finger bar across the first and second string
at the first fret.
[A] And the second fret on the G string.
Now, first you're going to have your little finger
to the third fret on the high [G] E.
You're going to pick that.
And then the B string.
[Am] And then the G.
Then back to the B.
Then just lift up that little [F] finger.
Same picking pattern.
And [G] repeat that over and over again.
[F] [G] [F]
Alright, [N] and that's A Hard Day's Night.
Obviously a great tune.
Pretty much everybody should learn it.
It's just a great exercise and learn how to write a great song.
