_ _ _ We'll cap out at fret 2 for Rocky Mountain High and we're in drop D tuning.
So [F] with your capo on, take your 6 string and tune it down from your tuner will say F sharp
to start with, tune it down till it says E.
_ [E]
Now with the D chord we're effectively in
drop D tuning, playing chord shapes as if in the key of D, technically in the key of
E.
And we'll follow the tab as we go through this one because there are a couple of tricky
little licks, starting with the introduction one which sounds like this. _ _ _
_ _ _ _ [F#m] _ _ _ _
_ [E] _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [F#m] _ _ _ [B] _ _ _ _
_ So start with a normal D chord shape, you want to play 6 and then strum [E] down up _ _ _ on the
high strings.
_ Then you want [D] to pick the 3rd string and [D#] hammer from the 2nd fret where
it already is to the 4th [G#m] fret with your little finger and then down up again, leave that
little finger down as you [E] strum down up, _ _ back to pick the 3rd [B] string at the 2nd fret, still
holding that D chord shape.
[D#] Then hammer the 4th string from open to [E] 4th fret, _ _ _ _ back again
to the 3rd string [F] 2nd fret as the little finger comes [B] away and now pick the 4th string at
[G#m] the 4th fret.
_ _ _ _ _ [E] _
1 and a 2 e [G#m] and a 3 _ and a 4 and. _
_ _ _ [G] Now little finger comes away as we go to bar 2 of the intro and the tab, little finger
away and the [C#]
index finger moves to the 4th string 2nd fret, pick it and pull it off to
open.
[E] _ _ As you pull off all the fingers come away because you're going [F] to hit the 6th string
now and hammer into this shape, 6th and 5th strings at the 2nd [C#m] fret.
_ [E] Better than I just
[F#m] did, like that.
And then down, down up, that's now an E minor chord.
[A] Then we bring this 2
finger shape up to the 5th fret, play 6, down up _ and to the [B] 7th fret, 6, [A] down up.
_ _ _ So
that [F] bar, we come out of the D chord shape, _ [F#] 1 e and [F#m] a 2 and a 3 and [B] a 4 and a.
_ And [D#] the
whole 2 bar lick, the whole 2 bar intro phrase, [E] 1 and a 2 e and a 3 and [G#m] a 4 and.
[E] 1 e [F#m] and a
2 and a 3 and [B] a 4 and a.
And then [E] you repeat it. _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [A] _ _ [F#] _
