Well [N] hello there everyone, how are you doing?
My name is Robert, welcome to GuitarControl.com.
We are going to be rocking out with the Hollies today with their song Long Cool Woman.
And talk about, it's been in so many movies, so many kind of like iconic moments in movies
is this song, especially like Remember the Titans, stuff like that.
But what's kind of cool is I think it's one of those riffs that everyone hears and maybe
they never learned it and they're like, I always wanted to learn that riff.
That's how it was with me, a bunch of people I've talked to, that's how they felt about
this, they're like, I've always wanted to know that riff.
So we're going to be breaking this one down for you here today.
Make sure you grab those tabs down below in the description.
Other than that, let's get going.
Alright so let's kick things off with that opening lick.
So I'll go ahead and play it for you once and then we're going to break it [Em] down.
[G]
[D] [G] [D]
[E] Now [C] real nice and slow it goes [E] like [A] this.
[Em]
[G]
[D] Now [G] [D]
[G] [Gbm] [E]
it starts out with an open low E string, then you're going to do open [A] A, [B] and you're
going to hammer on the second [E] fret.
[Bm]
And then [N] you go to [E] open D.
[Bm]
Okay?
Then you're going to go to fifth [G] fret on the D, then open G.
[E] So, [Em] so, [Cm] um, sorry.
[A] So you have, [G]
next you go to fourth fret on the [Gb] D, [G] open G, open B, so.
Then you go to second fret on [E] the D, open G and open B.
[Em]
[G] [Em]
Now you go [D] open D, open G, [G]
okay?
[C] And then you go to second fret [B] on the A, to open [Bm] D.
[G] [Em]
[G] Okay?
[Em]
[G] Now [Em] [G]
[D] [C] this part's like the top part of a G chord almost.
It's just third fret [G] low E string, second [B] fret on the A, open [G] D.
Then you go to second fret on the low [Gb] E, open A, [D] open D.
[G] [D]
You go back to the third [G] fret, [B] second fret, [Bm] open.
Now you come up here to the fifth [A] fret.
[G] [A] [G]
[D] [G] [D] [G] Now [A] this one you're going to play fifth fret on the low E string, open D, [D] open G.
[G]
Then you slide back down, and it's third fret low E, to open [D] D, [Gb] second fret low E, to open [A] A.
[G]
[D] [G]
[Em] [G]
[D] [G]
[D] [A] And that's the whole intro [E] riff.
Now the next part is this one.
Now this is really cool.
It starts out with a normal shuffle and then they just kind of like tweak it a little bit.
So it's a normal kind of like E5, open low E, second fret on the A.
Then you go to fourth fret on the A, and fifth fret on the A.
Now notice they're not just kind of like going, it's real like choppy.
They're kind of like choking out the string.
Then you go back to four.
It's like two, four, three, four.
Then you go to two on the A and D.
You do that twice.
Then you go back to four, [C] [E] back to five, back to four.
It's only that first one that goes, [Em]
[E] [G] [E]
[Em] [E]
[A] and they just kind of keep going [C] with that.
And the only part that really changes in that first main riff is it does [E] this.
[G] [A] Where they just add a simple little power chord [Cm] in there.
Third fret low E string into [G] G5.
[C] Then you move up to [A] fifth fret, and that's [E] it.
[G] [A] [Em]
[E] [A]
And that just will be, [Am] it's like an A5.
It's fifth fret on the low E string, seventh fret on the A twice.
And then you go to seventh fret.
[Em] I'm sorry, it's seventh, and you go to ninth [A] fret with your pinky.
You move up two frets [B] to B, back down two to [A] your A.
Then you go [F] down to a G.
So you move down two more, so you're on three [Bb] on the low E and five on the [G] A.
You go to the first [E] one, go back [A] to A.
[G] [A] [Ab]
[Bm] [Em] [A]
[B] [G] [A] [Ab]
[Bm] [Em]
[D] [C] And it kind of just keeps bouncing around like that.
I mean, you hear there's two different guitar parts happening in a lot of these different areas.
But [N] we'll do that one main right there.
[Ab]
So it's open low [E] E string, and you go to [Ab] first fret on the G.
[Eb] Three [E] times.
[A] [Bm] [E]
[C] And that is simply going open A, hammer on [A] second fret.
[B] And then open [D] D, [A] do it again.
[Bm] [E] [Ab]
[A] [Bm]
Now, then it goes [E] a little hammer on, so it's open D and G.
[Gb] Hammer on to [Eb] first fret on the G and second [G] fret on the G.
It's kind of like your chord.
[E]
[A] [Bm] [E]
[Bm] [E]
[A] [Bm] [E]
[A] [Bm] [E]
[G] [A]
[E]
So.
That's it.
Awesome.

_ _ _ _ _ _ [A] and they just kind of keep going [C] with that.
And the only part that really changes in that first main riff is it does [E] this. _ _ _ _ _
_ [G] _ _ _ [A] _ Where they just add a simple little power chord [Cm] in there.
Third fret low E string into [G] G5.
[C] Then you move up to [A] fifth fret, and that's [E] it. _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [G] _ _ [A] _ [Em] _ _
_ [E] _ _ _ _ _ _ [A] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
And that just will be, _ _ [Am] it's like an A5.
It's fifth fret on the low E string, seventh fret on the A twice.
And then you go to seventh fret.
[Em] I'm sorry, it's seventh, and you go to ninth [A] fret with your pinky. _
_ _ _ _ _ You move up two frets [B] to B, _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
back down two to [A] your A. _ _ _ _ _
_ _ Then you go [F] down to a G.
So you move down two more, so you're on three [Bb] on the low E and five on the [G] A.
You go to the _ _ _ _ _ first [E] one, _ _ _ _ _ _ go back [A] to A. _ _ _ _ _ _
_ [G] _ _ _ _ [A] _ [Ab] _ _
_ [Bm] _ _ _ _ [Em] _ _ [A] _
_ _ [B] _ _ [G] _ [A] _ _ [Ab] _
_ _ [Bm] _ _ [Em] _ _ _ _
[D] _ [C] And it kind of just keeps bouncing around like that.
I mean, you hear there's two different guitar parts happening in a lot of these different areas.
But [N] we'll do that one main right there.
_ [Ab] _ _
So it's open low [E] E string, _ and you go to [Ab] first fret on the G.
_ _ [Eb] Three [E] times. _ _
_ [A] _ [Bm] _ _ _ [E] _ _
[C] And that is simply going open A, hammer on [A] second fret.
[B] _ And then open [D] D, [A] do it again.
[Bm] _ _ [E] _ [Ab] _ _
_ [A] _ [Bm] _ _ _ _ _
Now, then it goes [E] _ a little hammer on, so it's open D and G.
[Gb] Hammer on to [Eb] first fret on the G and second [G] fret on the G.
It's kind of like your chord.
[E] _ _ _ _ _ _
[A] _ [Bm] _ _ _ [E] _ _ _ _
_ _ [Bm] _ _ _ _ [E] _ _
_ _ [A] _ [Bm] _ _ _ [E] _ _
_ _ [A] _ [Bm] _ _ _ _ [E] _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ [G] _ _ [A] _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ [E] _ _ _
_ _ So.
