[D#] [F] Welcome to [D#] HD Piano, my name is Dan and in this lesson we're going to learn how to play
My Immortal by Evanescence.
We're going to specifically take a look at the [A] verse and
introduction material.
Here it is.
[C#m] [A]
[C#m] [A] [C#m]
[A] [C#m]
[A] [C#m] [A]
[C#m] [A] So on and so forth.
That is our intro, our verse, and
it also happens to be our outro, so let's learn it.
We can think about this in two different chord chunks.
This is our first.
We won't need to
stretch this far on the right hand, but it's good to think of it this way.
These are the
only notes we're playing in this first chord.
We play them in this order.
Left hand is playing
A, E, A.
Right hand is playing C sharp, E, A.
Those are the first three notes.
Then the
right hand plays E again, then C sharp, E, A, E.
So we're thinking about these two chunks
of notes.
We just hold this left hand chord.
It's going to be depressed for the whole measure.
And occasionally the pianist, you'll hear them go alternate between this E and this
A and then stop on the A when the right hand hits the C sharp.
We'll hear that a couple
times in the recording.
But for now all we need to know is
Let's play this measure together again.
One more time.
The next measure is [C#m] similarly constructed.
Except this time, this is our chord block.
C sharp, G sharp, C sharp on the left.
C sharp,
E, G sharp on the right.
In that order.
And then back down to E and just up to C sharp
and hold.
So that second [A] measure isn't any harder than the first.
[C#m]
Let's play that second
measure along.
Play that.
Ready and
Again.
One more time.
Go.
Easy enough, right?
[A]
Let's
play them back to back.
See if we can do that real slowly.
Two, ready and
[C#m] Repeat.
[A] Here's where it changes.
So it's really close to the same except instead of going from C
sharp to A [Em] in the right hand, we go from B [A] to A with alternating on E.
[C#m] And then the next
measure is the same.
Again, sometimes with this G sharp to C alternating in the left.
So let's look at those four.
That [A] whole thing is the intro, those four measures.
Again.
Ready.
Here we go.
[C#m] Next [A] measure.
Different top voice this time.
[C#m] Good.
[A] Okay.
And this
is where the lyrics would come in.
And [C#m] funny enough, it's pretty much [A] the same thing as
the intro.
[C#m] [A]
[C#m] [A] [C#m]
So that's it.
I mean that's [A] the whole thing really.
Verse and chorus, or pardon
me, intro, verse and then outro.
Now I wanted to talk about the outro really quick.
It differs
because the very last time, we played through it twice up here.
[C#m] [A] These are the last two.
[C#m] [E] And we play that B [A] and then we end on this chord.
A, E, C sharp, A.
You'll have to remember
that for later because, well, we're learning the outro in the first lesson and we won't
be using it until we play the whole thing.
So that's how we end it.
We go from [C#m]
C sharp
to B [A] and this chord.
Nice fat A chord.
Okay.
So we've learned most of the intro, verse
and outro material.
Let's play it through a couple times a little closer to studio tempo.
We can move on.
This is going fast.
Here we go.
One, two, ready, intro, [C#m]
[A] [C#m] verse.
[C#m] [A] Let's keep
playing this.
[C#m] [A] [C#m]
[A] This is the [C#m] last time.
At that point we're into the pre-chorus.
So we've
learned everything we need to learn in this lesson.
We know the intro, the verse and the
outro stuff.
So please join me for another lesson where we'll learn the pre-chorus.
