[A] [Em] Hi and welcome [G#] to my tutorial on how to play the intro to Let Her Go.
I've worked out an easy way to play it in first position, standard tuning, without a capo.
Now what we'll have to do is start with [D] a D chord, [G] but we're going to play it this way.
We're going to put our fingers in here just like this.
I've got my middle finger on the G string, 2nd fret, and my ring finger on the B string,
3rd fret.
We're going to start like this.
I'm going to break it into small pieces so anyone can learn how to play this.
So it goes like this.
[D]
That's the first thing we're going to do.
We're going to be repeating this little part.
So it goes like this.
[B] [D]
[G] [G] So that was [A] part of the D chord.
[B] Open B, and A note, [Am] 2nd fret, [G] and then open G.
So here it is.
[D] [G]
[G#] Then we're going to hammer on the D string [D] at the 2nd fret, [E] and then open up the G [G] string.
Like that.
So the next step was, [Em] here we go.
[D] [G] [D] [Em]
Just like that.
[N] Then we're going to go to a C major 7 chord, which is like this.
Ring finger on the 3rd fret, A string, and the middle finger on the D string, 2nd fret.
And we're just going to go [C] like
[G] that.
So we started with the A and [C] D string with the thumb, and then used the index finger
[Em] and go from the B string up like that.
So here we [C] go.
[G] So let's see what we've got [D] so far.
[B] [A]
[G] [D] [Em]
[C]
[F#] And that's our first lick.
Lick number 2.
[G]
Okay, here we go with part 2 of it.
We're going to have to go to [D] a D chord, like that.
Okay?
So what we're [F#] going to have to do is this.
[D]
[Em]
[D] Alright?
[A] So what we did there was went to the A note, open B, [B] back [A] to A, [G] open, the same lick we did before.
[F#] Hammer on the D string.
[D] [Em]
Then we're going to go back to the D string [E]
and pull up on the [B] B string, and then strike a [D] D chord.
Like that.
So
[B] it's
[G] [Em]
[D]
[F#] Alright?
Now for the 3rd part, which is going to go [E] something like this.
[Em] [C]
[G] So what we're going to do there is go to our regular lick, which is
[A]
[B] [G] [D]
[Em] And then we're going to grab a C major 7 chord and go
[C]
And [G] then come up.
So we're going to strike the A [D#] and the D string [C] once.
Then strike the G [G] string.
And then come up on the B string twice.
Like that.
Just like that.
[C]
And the last [D#] part is very easy.
For this part, we're going to grab a D suspended 2 form, with the 2nd fret held down on the G string, and the 3rd fret for the B string, [G] and do this.
We're going to open up that G string, and play both strings, [D] then put it back down on the 2nd fret, play it again.
[Gm] And then [B] open up the B string.
And then do [Em] an E minor chord.
So it's like this.
[D] [Em]
So let's do the whole thing slowly.
[D] [G] [D]
[Em] [C] [G]
[F] [B] [D]
[Em]
[D] [Bm] [D]
[Em] [C]
[A] [B]
[E] [Em]
Alright.
That's the intro to Let Her Go.
With a little bit of work, you'll be able to do that one.
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great day.
